New look for motor

Postby Sirshredalot » Fri Apr 27, 2007 1:37 am

Heres my new reworked (again) intake and carb set up.

Here goes the specs again...Just cause I wanna list em.

Weiand tunnel ram:
Manifold was pre-ported before I bought it...it was huge x large.

-Decreased runner diameter with epoxy to increase velocity
-Divided plenum with aluminum plate and epoxy
-Reduced the size of the ports where the upper section joins lower section...again to promote mixture velocity and atomization...this will create a low pressure area right below the upper plenum...similar to principles of exhaust scavenging with headers.

Carburetors:
-(2) 1850 vac. sec. 600cfm holleys.
- 1:1 linkage
-66 jets in primarys
-6.5 power valves
-31 squirters
-30cc accelerator pump diaphrams
-custom accelerator pump cams
-Viton capped transfer tubes
-Restricted liquid lines in the metering block (.018 wire)
-Fancy paint job.

So far the new build hasnt been on the engine yet so I need to take vaccum readings to make sure I get the right power valves in and the right secondary springs.

It looks alot better than the gas and oil staind piece that it was before with to ugly dirty carbs on top.

God bless

PS: how do you make the picture show up IN the post...not only as an attachment?,,,can the pics be made smaller to fit?

You've got to have them uploaded to a webpage first. A good way would be to upload them to the garage or a CarDomain page. Then you can use that img button and put the web address in there.

Thanks for posting your engine details, man. It's fun to read.

Shred,
That's some cool mods you're doing to the manifold to make it more streetable. Too many people think bigger is better.

Pick the Post Reply button at the top of the thread. There will be an 'Add an Attachment' section below the 'Post a reply' section. Pick the Browse button and select an image on your hard drive or other storage device. The remaining steps should be intuitive.

I tried to click the browse button and select my filefrom my computer but it sai that they where all too big.
Is there a way I can make the file/picture smaller?

can I turn down the resolution on my camera to get a smaller photo?
Im kinda a technology retard...Id rather rebuild a manual transmission than format a hard drive anyday ...

Please help.
Please and thank you for the compliment

Shred,

Google IRFanview, its a free-ware photo editor, you can easily resize the photos using it. Don't turn down the resolution on your camera, the photos won't be nearly as good.

Open the picture in your (paint) program. Then go to (image) and select (stretch/skew) and resize. Then select (save as) and make it (JPEG) as the format. Best to save it to your desk top. Then add it as an attachment.

You should be good.

is that the 327 350 hp cam you are using? if its i have some info if you want it. many moons ago i used it in a 327 with about 10.5 compresion .had a tunnel ram with 2 600 just like you are using .anyway after many different things to get it to run to have it fun to drive. i advanced the cam 6 degrees, and finally used a pair of 390 holleys. also the car had a turbo 350 with 3.73s. after that it was great to drive .

Yeah...i wish I had a pair of the 390's...but theyre far out of reach of my budget...which basically consists of nothing, pocket lint, and the occassional tid bit of spare...wait...nope..nevermind...no spare money here.
Wife is still finishing college and I work at an auot parts store. she works one or two days a week.

The 450's look appealling but therye going up in price too now.

I have LOTS of intake and carb mods to make them all mesh and play nice together so Im pretty confident that itll all work out...especially when I get the 4 speed in there with that deep first gear.

I had the 600's sitting around...and thats the price I like the best...so Im gonna run what i brung...hehe.
Plus theyre vac sec so theyll only gimme what I need with the right springs.

And yes...it is the 350 horse 327 cam...I just wish I could get it in a solid lifter form....Ive been thinking of just dropping in a set of solid lifters on the old cam...I like the noise and adjustability that I can play with ..lash....mmmmmmm

God bless

Don't do that...good way to wipe off the lobes.

Is a solid cam induction hardened or somthing?

I know that the lifters all have the same crown on them and the only difference is the plunger is fixed instead of spring compressable.

I hear alot of circle track guys that talk about doing that.

thanks for the advice..just had a question about it.

God bless

I live in an apartment complex so there sno garage or even room to work.
So to answer...next I am going to rebuild my saginaw 4 speed in the living room after I get a parts kit....and a big tarp and drip pan....and wifeys approval.

But the really cool thing is...My wife likes it...well....maybe not the transmission idea...but she digs the carbs and intake...theyre cute.

Thanks
God bless
