231 to V8

Postby mad max motorsports » Fri May 04, 2007 3:49 pm

Now to H-bodies, just a quick simple question.

I currently have a '79 with the 3.8L V6 wanting to change to V8.
Looks like the "frame" is generic with different mounts and mount brackets/supports that attached to the "frame". This correct?

Yes, among other things, you will need V8 frame mounts and V8 engine mounts. Most of the V8 parts are specific to this H-body chassis, so you will need to find other parts as well. The oil pan for instance must be for a H-body applcation to clear the centerlink and inner tie rods.

there is a link in the suppliers section of the forum...well...not a link but I posted all the infor and part numbers about the different alternate mounts that can be used to swap in a v8.

There are some guys here that are also making the v8 factory style mounts...butyou have the have the frame plates also....I am not sure but I think the 231 and the v8 plates are different.

I am running the front style mounts and like having the extra room on the sides of the motor for different headers and such.

Just depends on how you want to go about the swap.
I think that finding the frame plates would be harder than just bolting in the new fromt style mounts.

God bless
