Charcoal canister hookup?

Postby v8astregt » Sun Jul 09, 2006 8:15 pm

The original canister for the Astre has 4 connections. I substituted an S10 unit that has 2 connections now. 1 goes to the tank of course, and the other is marked "purge". Where should I hook this too? Or should I just make it a vent? Any suggestions? Thanks

I believe the purge goes to the vacuum fitting on the carb.

Just any vacuum fitting? There wouldn't be any issue if there is a backfire or anything like that?

I think it goes to a ported vacuum connection.

If its a bigger size hose, like the one thats hooked to the tank, you can tee it into the pcv system.

It's small, about the size of a vacuum line. So a ported vacuum line is tied into the intake with the kickdown, or into the carb? Intake, right?

ported comes from the carb above the throttle plates....its port will always be on the carb.
no vac at idle or cruise, vacuum as the revs come up.

manifold would be with the trans kickdown vacuum line as you suggested. Or anywhere in the manifold and some carb ports below the throttle plates.

hope that helps.
