I have not personally tried to install one, But I believe there is not enough clearance for the crank up front. I think most guys running the 383/400 stroke, are using aftermarket pans.

I'm not sure about the clearance up front but the rails along the block may need to be clearanced. 400 blocks are clearanced for the rods. With aftermarket cranks and rods you may not have to clearance the block or pan. Someone said thicker pan gaskets work.

I've wondered about this myself. One guy I know locally has a 383 in a Cosworth and he runs the aftermarket front mounts with a 400 oil pan and extra spacers under the mounts. And yeah, it sit's kinda high!

Stock pan will fit a 400 with stock rods.I had a stock pan on my 383 and 400.Both had stock rods. The 383 had 5.65 rods and the 400 had 5.7 rods.
Just a gold Vega with a little V-6
