Where is the appropriate place to put my Water Temp Sender? In the head? Intake? Gooseneck?

Head is where the factory put them most often. Tends to read hotter than the intake, as the intake ends up being more of a radiator outlet temperature than engine temp.

Right, the head is where the factory installed them. Be aware that there are temp senders and temp switches. Senders operate gauges while temp switches are used for warning lamps. I just picked up some for another member. I believe you can installl them in the intake, you may get a slightly different reading though.

I am running aluminum heads, so logically, I'm thinking I want to place the sender in the head, because that is the most critical temp reading I want to make... I don't want them to warp. But I was unsure if placing it the head was appropriate, or do I want to find the "hottest" spot to read (if the head isn't the hottest).

Also given the circulation path of the coolant, I would suspect one head might be hotter than the other, and following that thought process, wouldn't the left head (driver side) be hotter, given a convential water pump/ clockwise rotation. Thoughts?

This was posted in the wrong forum. I'm moving it to Engine Tech.

Monza V8's, as well as other cars, often had two senders/switches. one in each head. One worked the gauge and the other the warning light. I don't know if one head runs hotter than the other, you are probably splitting hairs here.

Thanks Clyde, I appreciate your opinion/advice. You're probably right about splitting hairs, I just don't want to make a silly or unnecessary mistake...
