4.3 Vortec engine fitment

Postby CK88 » Thu Mar 28, 2013 12:39 am

Alright guys, still trying to figure out which power plant to go with in my 72 gt wagon build. I'm debating between the 4.3 carb'd from an 80's s10, or with a 4.3 vortec from a newer s10. I'm going to be putting it in front of a T5 trans. I'm wondering if the Vortec has different fitting in the compartment, and what the wiring/fuel delivery etc. requirements are for this swap. If it will fit and work with a little more effort, I think the extra torque and low end power would be worth it to me. I WILL be going with an EFI system on this car anyway, so that won't be a hangup. Going to buck up the money and just go with one of the "EZ" style EFI systems.

Anybody done this swap, or know anything about how it would work? Help, as always, is much appreciated.

what did you decide to do? i would have used the factory vortec efi. i was thinking about putting a 4.8/5.3 in mine but i have done enough of those. I'll be using a 3800 in it instead. 205 hp is plenty for a daily driver Vega. 3

Look for a 96 to 98 "W" vin Vortec.
Get a motor with a manual trans if that is what you want to use as they were balanced with the flywheel, on the one piece rear main seal motors.
2wd 4.3- 5 speed S10's also came with the 8.5 rear axle the same width as a Vega.
here is a link with some info:
