High Flow heads ('79 and up) on Oddfire block

Postby kayak » Tue Jun 18, 2013 2:28 am

Found these heads on line...

http://www.americancylinderheads.com/cy ... C178C.html

Look to be later model evenfire heads (high flow?). Read somewhere in these forums that these will bolt onto my oddfire block ('75) with no mods.

Truth or fiction?

Also, I'm assuming I'll need to swap out the exhaust manifolds for a set that fit the newer heads, correct?

Thanks,
Kurt

I do not believe those "high Port" not high flow heads will just bolt onto a odd fire engine, But I will have to check my referances when I get home. I believe there are Cooling and Oil passage differences between even and odd fire engines. I know they will bolt onto the early 77-78 even fire engines . I would buy a set of 1980 and a set of your year specific head gaskets and compare them to be sure.

Oklahoma,
I'm pulling my even fire 231 this week if you need high port manifolds, engine parts, etc.

In Thawley's book, Building the V6 Vega, he mentions needing different exhaust manis for the '79-later high flow/port heads. That's the only reason I'm looking for them... anticipating their need if/when I do go with a later model evenfire powerplant. I'm keeping the original oddfire for history/restoration sake, but I'm thinking of "upgrading" to a '79-later 3.8l or possibly a 4.1l (with a FAST EZ-EFI up top).

So, if you want to set those ex manis aside for me, I'd gladly send you a few $$ for them. I don't get down to your neck of the woods that often, but it's swap meet season and I do love the auto swaps you have in your big a*s state.

Ya, the Thawley book is sort of the bible for the Buick 231 swap.
