What radiator hoses?

Postby T-FATTY » Fri Aug 16, 2013 10:25 pm

What radiator hoses are you using for your V8 Vega? I want to get molded upper/lower radiator hoses to replace some funky flexible ones.
Thanks.

It depends on what radiator you're using. Mine has a 90 degree neck on the top and an upgraded 1-3/4" straight neck on the bottom. I use an upper hose that was pretty common to early '70s Camaro/Nova, etc. The Dayco number is 70724, shortened as necessary. The lower hose I have I got from a local muscle car parts supplier - it's one for a '66-'67 Chevelle.

T, in my 77 Monza 355 I used the lower hose from my 78 Chevy pickup and cut to fit. The top hose I just went in to the auto parts store and asked to look at the hoses to see what might work. Sometimes you get lucky , other times you may need to visit a couple different auto stores.

Of course, you could always borrow the idea some racers use...the filler neck in the ole upper rad hose trick.

Like this: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Inline-Fa ... ,6573.html

Using the filler neck allows you to cut and fit hoses together in a fashion satisfactory to you.

Please, be sure that the bottom hose definitely has a spring in it. The hose may collapse under enough suction from the water pump once the loud pedal is pushed. A collapsed hose won't allow enough fluid into the engine and you will have cooling problems.

Once you have found some suitable hoses, maybe you could share the info with us. Thanks.

Good luck and have fun.

cheers, Jer

Hey T,
I have a Be Cool radiator with the return fitting going straight back and a 15 degree neck.
I have a passenger side alternator and you can see my set up in the link below.
I used the universal 'you bend it' braided hoses from summit for both top & bottom.
I thought they worked great.
If this sort of set up would work for you, let me know and I'll give you the Summit p/ns I used.
