Power Steering brace bracket

Postby Fastmax32168 » Mon Dec 23, 2013 6:54 pm

Looking at pics of other peoples cars, it appears to me as though there is a bracket that bolts to the intake manifold, runs around the front of the valve cover, and then bolts to the power steering bracket to brace it. Is this correct? Because my car apparently never had one when I bought it, and I am trying to figure out how to brace the power steering up right now. Is that the only brace that is on it or is there one on the bottom somewhere? Because mine is just kind of hanging out there flopping around.
Thanks

Yes Roy there is a support to the Manifold/T-stat stud area, I have one of those brackets in the garage which is "supposed" to be getting a cleaning over the "holidays" I will grab a pic in the next couple of days if no one beats me to it! You should be able to easily fab one up, it is pretty simple rod with one Z bend and flattened ends with a bolt hole on each end. Merry Christmas! Harry

Hmmm, the one I saw pictures of looks like a more complicated stamped bracket that bolts to the front intake bolt holes and then sweeps around the front of the valve cover. Perhaps there is more than one style.

If you look close you can see the brace going over the corner of the valve cover. and kind of under the radiator hose. Its black. Its made of round stock and bolts to the intake.

took me awhile to find the pic, but...

I had to add spacers at each end to clear my tall valve covers

OK I see the round stock bracket, but where does the bracket go to in gerbs picture that looks S shaped and is located between the valve cover and the pump? It looks like it goes over to the front intake manifold area where the lifting ring is attached.

I didnt really want my brace running across the valve cover like that so I want ahead and fabbed one up that runs down to a header bolt. A bit less conspicuous I think. After all I wouldnt want to be conspicuous with this setup.
Thanks for the pics

That S shaped bracket is what the the air pump used to be mounted to. I haven't done the surgery to remove that yet.

And now I know. Thanks Gerbs. That brace I made has really firmed the PS assembly up, I think it should do the job.
