Which head's are better?

Postby heavy6405 » Sun Jan 12, 2014 6:19 pm

I'm putting a 9 to 1 comp 350 out of a 84 vette in my 76 vega that is goin to be used for the street and sometime's a blast down the track. Probably won't be goin over 6000 rpm. 2 sets of heads came with the motor when I bought it and I don't know which is the better of the 2. The 1st cast # is 14102193 which came off a 87 305 or 350 1.94/1.5. The 2nd # is 462624 which came from a75-86 350 or 400 76cc, 1.94/1.5. Both have pressed in studs. Thanks

Here's some info I found, neither sound very promising but there is a big difference in cc and thus compression ratio. Google the numbers and you'll find more info

14102193 87-95 TBI heads. 64 cc. flows poorly

The 624 heads are among the worst of the worst. Don't bother spending any money on them. As already referred to, they are highly prone to cracking in critical places, and do not take kindly to port work as a result; their combustion chambers are a cavernous 76cc, and leave you with a compression ratio way short of anything resembling performance; and their flow..... well, they're part of the formula for building 180 HP 350s and 185 HP 400s because they're so restrictive.
