Trans Dapt motor mounts 4686

Postby 74Vega » Thu Feb 20, 2014 4:55 pm

I need some help installing the trans dapt motor mounts on my 74 chevy vega. i noticed on the front plates that go on the water pump, the bottom portion that fits to the block has like almost an inch of space between the plate and the block. is some sort of plate or spacer supposed to go there? any help would be appreciated thanks

You must use the "SHORT" water pump found on 1955-68 models.

there are several options for alternator mounting with a short pump.
Monza pump and brackets
75 corvette pump and brackets
aftermarket bracket that bolts onto the end of the cylinder head (except on heads from the 1960's, they are not drilled )
aftermarket header type alternator bracket

depending on if you have power steering, AC, old heads and what pulleys you are using

hey 74 if you are using the short water pump, then the mount should only miss the 4 mounting holes on bottom of the block by 3/16 ", and you have 2 spacer plates that are 3/16" thick that bolt in between the mount and the block. they are in the kit. the instructions should show them in the exploded view of the mount. the alternator mount will not be hard to get. lots of mounts are available. art

ok cool in that kit i saw those little spacers but the holes are off so im gonna have to drill them so the bolts go straight through. so ill see if i can find some monza alternator brackets im not gonna run any a/c or p/s just a simple setup cuz i only have a month to get it going before i move. also i saw how on a 68 350 from a camaro the alternator bolts to the head so i can probably try that too

hey 74 jegs sells a nice bracket (billet 1 piece) that bolt to head on drivers side head(2 bolts) and will make your life easy. go to their website and look at alt brackets. it should be the first one they show. around $80. as far as the bolts not lining up. my brackets were horrible. the 2 bolts that go to the water pump were so far off, that i cut the parts off and jig welded them back on so they would line up properly. company called TD makes these kits. i callld them up and told them they should be ashamed of themselves for putting these on the market. they said they had problem with the welders not speaking g english(they speak spanish) and the foremans had trouble telling the workers how to make the products,. can you believe that? its true. this was a few years ago. spoke to their tech guy last month about their remote oil filter kit for my vega and i reminded him about that problem, and he said it was solved. from what you are sayIng, they are still maKING JUNK, OR PERHAPS YOU BOUGHT AN OLDER KIT OR MAYBE A USED ONE. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PROJECT. ART

Yea that sounds horrible man I got mine off eBay some guy had them for years and they had a little bit of surface rust and the instructions were practically crumbling away so I'm sure theyve got some age on them but I dont mind
