75 Monza V8 different?

Postby duckblaster67 » Wed Feb 18, 2015 7:00 pm

Are the V8 parts from a 75 Monza any different than the later years(76-80) where they changed the chassis?

There are differences between a 75 V8 Monza and later years but a lot of stuff is also the same, it really depends upon what you are referring to.

Just all the V8 parts because we're planning a V8 swap in a 76 Vega GT and want to make sure everything will work! :th:

If you have a complete 75 v8 Monza, then you should have everything you need and be good to go. The first 2 V8 vega swaps I did were on 76 GT's with all OEM donor parts from a 75 and a 77 Monza, and there was no difference in the years, other than engine size(262 vs. 305). I used the complete accessory drives, motor mounts and plates, exhaust manifolds, radiators oil pans, bellhousings(both Monzas were 4-speed). I even changed one Vega from Auto to Manual with the pedals, clutch cable and shifter & mounting plate from the donor. Also swapped over the power steering box, tilt column and brake booster. On the first one, the only thing I didn't swap(at first) was the 7.5" rear end. The Vega's 6.5" diff failed spectacularly almost 100 miles from home about a month later. Lesson learned.
The "fleet"-
72 Vega HB Drag Car -383/'Glide/9"(9.35@146.19)(5.94@117.28 1/8th)
77 Vega Estate wagon- project(someday)will have TPI305/T-5, S-10 spindles/axles
76 Vega GT- 400/4spd/9" retired from active duty(rusty)
06 Silverado 2WD ex.cab daily
03 Silverado 2WD ex.cab (retired)
06 Haulin' 20ft enclosed car transporter
06 GMC Canyon Shop truck
07 Colorado project( 5.3 4L60e swap)
99 Saturn SL1- wife's car
01 Saturn SC2- son's project
07 Saturn Ion Redline project
and 4 more Saturn "parts cars"
Note- the very act of listing all of these has made me realize I have some kind of problem.....

The only thing significantly different is the bracket on the rear for the panhard bar. If you are using the rear you will have to bend the bracket or get a heim end on the panhard. The brakes on the 75 are just the standard vega junk with metallic pads. The factory shifter linkage - in particular the levers on the tranny if a 4 speed are longer to account for the raised tunnel and the shifter handle is angled differently to clear the dash.
Virtually everything should be a near bolt in. Engine, tranny, front control arms, v8 springs, swaybars.

Is the 75 parts car a hatch? if it is are you selling unused parts off it? Black interior?

Thanks for all the help and info guys! Interior is grey and if we can get the last owner on the registration to file for a lost title for us, it will be restored instead of a parts car! :th:
