On a 2nd generation SBC with reverse flow cooling, does coolant flow in the direction from the back of the intake manifold> thru the heater core and then return to the water pump?

Google search results. Not sure if it'll completely answer your questions.

The guy that answers talks about LT engines instead of gen 2 sbc, thanx anyways.

Now that I think about it, it's not actually reverse flow on this motor. Just the WP impeller is reversed because the serp belt spins it the other way.

So I would think the WP housing is the suction side and the 2 mounts to the block are the output side.

The intake is actually a triple plane design as coolant flows through it as well to the rear of the engine where the heater coolant port is.

So the link did help. :th:

To add a little bit to this our "Forward Flow" was actually the way the water will flow on it's own Called "Thermo Siphon" the water rises when heated and falls through the old vertical rad's as it cooled, since this only worked OK at it's very best someone decided it needed a pump to help it and so came Forward Flow! P.S. reverse was found to reduce bore taper do to more even heating and cylinder pressures were evened out, (the reason for better detonation control and better emissions) This also reduced bottom end wear and thrust loads on the cylinder(s). Small block coolant flow the pump pulls from radiator lower hose. It pushes coolant through the block and heads to the front of the heads to the intake front crossover to the thermostat housing.
The LT1 cools the heads then the block.
Now to even out the coolant thermal variances try drilling the rear of the intake on both sides and run tubes from rear coolant ports, to the front. Looks weird but burps air bubbles and helps even out heat rejection to the radiator.

The L05 TBI factory intake I'm using already has the front and rear cooling passages connected via a third plane. ;)
