We have seen these before, it is a generic V8 sbc Chevy pan. Dorman or Pioneer doesn't make the correct pan for a H body chassis.

Jegs and a few other places sell pans for SBC in h-body cars. A factory pan will not fit.

I can't tell from the pictures and Clyde is probably right about autozone not labeling one right, but just for the record a real stock v8 monza oilpan will fit a v8 h body car I have one in my car. I know this isn't the greatest picture but if you look you will see the notch the factory pans have in them on the passenger side that the tie rod end goes into at full turn , also the dipstick on mine does go right into the pan on the drivers side. while I really wouldn't trust them if I knew the parts guy and didn't have one I'd be tempted to tell them to bring it in so I could look at it.

We have been down this road before.....I think they just figure if it fits a SBC it will fit whatever chassis the engine is in. There are correct aftermarket pans available for a V8 H body by Moroso and Milodon if you can't find a correct factory pan. I suppose a regular one could be modified to fit but I believe the front sump is also shallower for centerlink clearance so its more than just the dimples for the inner tie rods. I have also seen similar pans on ebay saying it fits a h body and they are obviously wrong.

And we shouldn't forget the "Kevco" pans here is link to one of those discussions: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=42253 there are a few others [threads] so the search will bring them, up eventually. These are the only ones I know of for the different block styles; '79 and earlier '80 and later, and then the 1 piece style of '86 and newer. Harry
