2129 hooker headers

Postby Jlegge007 » Thu Mar 10, 2016 11:02 pm

My 74 vega has power steering. Can I still use the steering box and disconnect the pump and hoses or do I have to find a manual box somewhere? Have to use the big tube headers because I'm using afr heads, etc

The steering box will work, but it is a bad idea! if you turn the power box with the ports open it will "puke" power steering fluid until it is nearly dry and then who knows if it will live or not. That power box will feel like you are driving a Semi with two flat tires! It will be hard for sure! I don't know if you can put a loop from the in port to the out port or not I doubt it, a reservoir would likely be needed and even then I figure it will spit fluid everywhere you turn. Harry

The power steering box and intermediate shaft are quite a bit bigger than the manual box. There still might be interference with the large tube headers, even without the lines and pump.
