1977 pontiac astre formula 2.5l HELP

I have a 1977 pontiac astre formula that I bought the guy I got it from said it needed new timing gears so when I took it apart it already had new ones on but something was a little off come to find out the the plate that holds the cam in is missing how does that happen long story short I can't find the part anywhere local part stores don't even kno where to start I've spent 2 months online and I still can find it can anyone help I was wondering if the same part can be used off an 2.5l pontiac fiero or any other car i kno this engine was used in alot of vehicles but with little changes did this part ever change please help

I don't know if the later "metric" 2.5 shares internal parts like the cam retainer, but a good source of parts for the old Iron Duke is often no farther away than the nearest boat dealer. Mercury Marine uses a 3.0 liter version in their inboard stern drive.
