v8 headers

So i just recieved my sanderson shorty headers that i bought on ebay and was wondering if they were stainless steel or bare what kind of high temp paint should i use

they may be ceramic coated or bare, I have not seen them in stainless.
how much were they or do you have a link to the auction ?

Try putting a magnet on them, it will not pull, or have very little, if it's stainless. Most likely ceramic coated

They were bare... ran into an issue on the passenger side... the header hits the engine compartment where the upper control arm bolts run through. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue

I have seen that with the Sandersons (Hookers are very close in this area too). Options are most likely to ding the the header, clearance the chassis or move engine over slightly. Are you running stock Monza V8 mounts?

There is some adjustment on the stock mounts, the holes are slotted. So, you may be able to loosen them and slide the engine over slightly, may be enough to get some clearance. You may want to loosen the trans mount as well to allow the engine to move easier. If you decide to ding the header pipe it's usually best to get a piece of pipe and lay it on the header tube and then beat on that with a hammer. That will give you a nicer dimple than just beating the pipe.

if you are still using worn out stock mounts get rid of them. Use bob gumm or powerbyace replacement mounts to raise engine back up. Like clyde said you have some adjustment for clearance. Most of the clearance issues I have seen with sandersen headers required pretty severe denting of the pipe. I would relieve the fenderwell to add clearance. Monzas have clearance built into the fenderwell for stock exhaust manifold clearance when compared to the early vega.
There are also 2 different style passenger side headers.

I had the same problem mounting my headers. I ended up cutting a section out of the fenderwell brace and welding a new piece in. Easy to do when the motor is out. :wink:

Id hate to have to beat up a new set of headers...Probably end up notching the fenderwell... and i know this is off topic but when one orders a griffin radiator how long does it normally take to receive it?
