1976 Monza 355 headers

Postby 1976Monza350 » Sat Jan 14, 2017 10:08 pm

I just picked up a built 355 for a killer price, I'm looking for a set of headers for it and I for the life of me cannot find a set of them :bang: . It's a 1976 monza towne coupe originally with the 4.3 V8 (currently a 350 Chevy), it has power steering, factory ac (everything except the shit behind the firewall has been removed) and has a Turbo 350 trans backing it. Can anyone direct me to a set of headers with inch and 3/4 primaries and a 3 inch collector that fit the damn car? If you have any more questions feel free to ask!

Not sure about 1 3/4" versions, only ones I know would be Hooker 2129's but these require front engine mounts and don't fit with some other accessories. I have run Hooker 2135's on my 355 for over 35 years (2 sets over that time) but they have 1 1/2" tubes and have been happy with them. They are great for most SBC street engines. Some guys run the Sanderson shorties, those might be 1 5/8"? Not positive on that. The smaller header pipes give greater low end torque and fit much better than a larger header will. Space is at a premium on these cars, not sure you would notice enough difference going to a 1 3/4" to be worth the hassle....

I could always get rid of the power steering but I have no clue where to get a manual steering box from either. If anyone knows where to find one or has one themselves, I have a complete functioning power steering setup I'd be willing to get rid of.

1976Monza350 You don't have a location listed and that will make a difference if you end up chasing a used set. I have a set of older what I now believe are 1 1/2" Don Hardy headers,[http://forums.h-body.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=44692] but they to require a front engine mount, otherwise you will end up with one of the really expensive "Hooker" ones [1 3/4" & 1 1/2" some with front only mounts and others with side mounts], not to badly priced "Sanderson's" [those are 1 1/2"] , the new "Don Hardy" headers [1 5/8" I believe] or a DIY solution, these are all any of us has been able to find lately. :( Harry

2135s should handle any 355 without forced induction an d they clear motor mounts. If you decide to run motor plate the 2129s will work with motor plate. I have a car with 2135s on it but bottom out damage, and my 2129s were bent in wreck and have been laying out for few years so may be junk or in need of repair now.

I think you will have a hard time finding 1 3/4" headers that will fit with your accessories. The only ones I know are Hooker 2129 but they require front engine mounts and no power steering and hang down pretty far. Is this a street car? If so, consider the Hooker 2135 long tube headers or Sanderson shorties. They both have smaller pipes but that is actually better on a street engine and I doubt you'd feel any difference on a street car. Much less hassle....
