Getting ready to have the new exhaust system installed. Don't know enough about duel systems to make an informed decision about whether to use H pipe or X pipe. It is my understanding that the H pipe produces more hp gain in low to mid range rpm and has a deeper tone. The X pipe produces more gain in the upper end and has a higher pitch. I am building a mild 327 ( L79 cam, 9:1 CR 1.94/ 1.50 valves, 600 CFM 5-speed) street car. At this point I am leaning toward the H pipe. Any though, opinion, experiences??

I am of the opinion that they both do the same thing. The X pipe just does it
more effectively. The most noticeable change they make is the reduction in
the traditional true dual sound caused by a different sound coming out of each
pipe at any given moment. With the H and X pipes the sound coming out of
the tail pipes at any given moment is more similar.
I have an H pipe on my Nova (400SBC, 18ga. headers, no sound insulation on
the floor) with DynoMax Super Turbo mufflers. With all the noise up front I can
barely hear the exhaust, but what I can hear is toned down (punny eh!?) and
the lope from the cam is less noticeable.
Ultimately it may come down to what you can fit under the car. We don't have a
lot of room to work with when it comes to our H-bodies.

I have a H pipe but personally if I had the choice I would go with a X pipe, I think it is more efficient. However, as mentioned it comes down to packaging and whatever fits best. Either one is better than nothing.
