Need spark plug advice

Postby meschnebly » Tue Sep 12, 2006 4:43 pm

What do you guys recommend for a plug on a 305 mildly built?

416 heads with larger intake valves
Performer intake and 600cfm carb
Sanderson headers
Performer cam
MSD distrib and coil
Accel wires
Zero decked block with Speed Pro flat top pistons

I am looking at accel short plugs but I'm not sure what heat rating I should be looking at. Any ideas?

I would start with whatever is recommended for the 305 from the factory and go from there.

Thanks but I was hoping to bypass some of the trial and error by getting it close the first time. Changing plugs in a V8 Monza sure aint no fun.

I run AC DELCO RAPIDFIRES, but any quality plug will be fine.

Aren't the Rapidfire's large $$$??? Like $4 a piece? If they're a good plug, I guess it shouldn't matter though.

I know with my 355, I ran full MSD ignition, wires, box, distributor, everything. And with that, the guide recommeded regular ole spark plugs, and said that a premium plug offers no benefits. So at least while I'm breaking the car in, I'm running Champion RC12YC's.

The RAPIDFIRES are more than standard plugs but I don't think I paid that much for them. I think they were about $3 each. I don't change plugs very often since I only put on about 1000 miles a year. Besides being a good plug they have a nice silver finish on the threaded portion that doesn't corrode like some brands (damn car show people  ) It's also a wider range plug that replaces several different plug #'s. I am using # 2.
