2.5 is going in wagon for my son to drive to H.S. dont want him in too much trouble with it mild build cam header carb he is more into paint and graphics stereo hopefully some where around 130HP or so should still be fun in that light a car will proably to some kind of fiberglass hood make it look fast anyway

Rick,

Good plan. Probably best that young people are more into looks and sound than speed and power.

If I can get my Sunbird to look half as nice as your Monza, I'd be happy with just a stock motor!

HORSE POWER AND HORMONES A BAD COMBINATION

Postby mldeolde » Mon Oct 30, 2006 11:44 pm

HERE IS MY STORY - LET MY 20 YR OLD DAUGHTER USE MY 74 NOVA WITH A 400 HP 355 SBC AND BUILT TURBO 350 TRANS WITH JUST A LITTLE MORE STALL THAN FACTORY SET UP AND 3:08 gears. within the first 3 months she already had her first speeding ticket and a secound time got off with a warning "probably because she is a cute little 5'2" blond, athletic cute'. she was told that this was a high maintenence car and things like fluids, brakes, tire pressures, etc.would have to be checked regularly several times i found things not up to snuff  after that i had to take it away from her. lesson learned my youngest just got a 68 beetle with nice mags, exhaust header, nice sterio, and a nearly stock factory 1200 cc gutless wonder motor. almost incapable of a speeding ticket which is just fine with me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SORRY COLIN BUT NO AT LEAST FOR NOW. IT'S MY DAILY DRIVER ,USUALLY, IT'S BEEN UP ON JACK STANDS FOR A YEAR IN ORANGE COUNTY AT MY BROTHERS HOUSE WHILE I'VE BEEN TRYING TO FIND TIME AND MOTOVATION TO REBUILD THE WHOLE FRONT END AND BRAKES. GOT IT FINNISHED RECENTLY AND NOW THERE IS AN IGNITION SWITCH ISSUE, I THINK,AND THE TRANNY IS ACTING LIKE ITS LOW ON FLUID AND OF COURSE WE JUST BROKE THE END OFF OF THE TRANNY DIP STICK SO WE SHELVED IT FOR THE MOMENT AND WENT AND BARBEQUED A STEAK INSTEAD OF PURSUEING THE PROBLEMS FURTHER. IT'S ALL A CASE OF PRIORITIES. THE MONZA IS MORE INTERESTING TO WORK ON AND I ALWAYS HAVE MY TRUCK FOR TRANSPORTATION AND FISHING SEASON AT IRVINE LAKE JUST OPENED UP FOR TROUT SO WHATS A GUY TO DO.MY BROTHER THE TECH GUY LIKES TO FISH.

lol.. that's what I'm looking for, too.. a daily driver. I'm tired of these newer cars. They have no character. I have a 700r4 ready to go for the first car I come across. I've been thinking seriously about a Nova. I'm not sure I need a/c but it is a nice convenience feature.

Let me know if you change your mind :)

I've heard from someone who raced 151's in circle track cars....that the earlier version like the 77 you have , has a better head for porting than the later head.

the later crossflow head works better in its original casting, but I guess you can open the 77 head up more? Not to sure, just something a racer told me.

Marco,

Thanks for the tip - didn't know that. I tried to find the performance head for this engine, but GM discontinued it a while ago. See pic below.

A machine shop near me is well-known for building Pontiac engines - 4, 6, and 8 cylinders. He built the turbo-charged Pontiac OHC-6 in a Firebird that was featured in High Performance Pontiac a couple of years ago. I've seen his cool looking hot rod (32 Ford??) with a fuel-injected 4-cylinder something in it. He is more than capable and certainly willing to help me get some decent power out of the 151. He mentioned larger valves and some mild porting. Of course he'll do the regular block prep and help me spec some custom pistons.

Any ideas on an intake manifold for this engine? 4-bbl? Dual side-draft Webers? I've been able to find them for the Vega 140. See pics below.
