Jeff,

That is an interesting set-up. Cool to see the actual parts on the engine and compare it to the drawings from the service manual.
Yes, definitely some heavy-duty brackets. I am interested in the fan, shroud, and radiator, too.
I'll look in the For Sale section and send you another PM.

I think I found confirmation on using Small Block Chevy rods with the the 151 crankshaft.
There was a concern about the big end of the 151 rod being thicker than a SBC V-8 rod.
Apparently, that doesn't matter. What does matter is the width of the rod bearing.
Hmmm.... maybe not - I'll have to think about this as rod side clearance needs to be factored in.
Anyway, the 36-page document details the build-up of the Pontiac Super Duty 2.5 kit (see text at bottom of image):

The document also specifies the rod bearing as Clevite Part Number CB1285P which is still available.

As I may recall Tom, they have to be SBC 6" rods and a certain journel size......... :?: :?: :?:

Thanks for the link Doug. Yeah, keep the reciprocating stuff as light-weight as possible. Good advice.
Interesting that some are doing the same thing as here except with a 153 c.i. Chevy. Not sure what they mean about the sawzall. :D

Thought I had mentioned it already, but I couldn't find it in this thread.
Aftermarket 6.0" forged rods for the Chevy 194 c.i., 230 c.i., 250 c.i. L-6 are available that have the correct width.

Only $71 each, $284 for 4 - not bad. If you buy 6 for $435, they are weight-matched.

Problem is that they have a 2.0" journal diameter.
So, the 2.1" journal diameter of the 181 crankshaft needs to be turned down.I haven't priced that, yet.

I also bought a set of 181 Mercruiser 5.7" rods just for mockup on the crankshaft and a comparison to some SBC rods that I have.

Nice Find , but I question the crappy Orange Fram Filter on it. Thats the bottom of the barrel for filters on a $3000 + motor? :bang:
