I am planning to do the rear one as well but it isn't near bright enough to see in the daylight. Will be just accent lighting hooked to the marker circuit.

I was sort of kidding, but I'm sure it will look cool just on the tail light circuit. Obviously, that single LED wouldn't really be bright enough for CHMSL(that's how it's referred to in GM wiring diagrams).

I'll take a guess, Center High Mounted Stop Lamp

The LED chip is rated for 260 mA but at that current level, the plastic emblem would get damaged - way too hot. I experimented with different values for R1 and ended up with 68 ohms. Best compromise between luminosity and heat. R1 needs to be a 5 watt ceramic power resistor. All testing was done at 14.2 volts with peaks of 15v as this is where most GM alternators have there control voltage set to.

I ground a trough for the wires and epoxied them down. Bits of heat shrink tubing were used, a 2 pin molex connector and everything was soldered. Got to sand the epoxy flat on the emblem backside yet, drill a hole in the fascia, emblem mount area, for the connector to pass thru and wire in the connector to the marker circuit.

Stumbled on this today while looking for something else. It was quite the trip hauling it back to Ontario from Greenville SC in 2006!

Rear end upgrade is underway. Five bolt axles, posi carrier and disc brakes. Will re-use the 2.73 gears.

Lookin Great Zeke. Do I see Spektrum radio box on the back shelf? I fly a Sonic Modell 1400mm Pitts Python bi-plane with AS3X and GPS telemetry- DX6, but, thats for a different thread.
