Lots of guys forget that it doesnt take a really big tire to go fast.

Look at the nitrous street car guys as well as the 10.5 outlaw cars.
Running 9's and 8's on a 10 inch tire....most of them only 28" tall or less.

Its all in the way you setup your chassis.
Plus when you run a large tire you have to compensate with gear ratio, so instead of 31" and 4.56 gears....try a 28" with 4.10's or 26" with 3.73's.

Thats a real good comment but the reason I am going to cut up mine is because its mine. I want to make it how I want it, not buy one that was built to someone else's standards. Also I think a Monza has a little bit more room for tires than a vega.

Grumpy how about a mini tub and move your links inboard? Not as drastic as a back half and maybe you can get a 10" in there.

The Pro street look never goes out of style.
Big tires take power to turn especially with tubes. They also become a handful if they get out of shape.
When i see a big tire car I expect it to be flying. Usually they dont.

And on a side note a smaller tire should get up to speed a little faster than a big tire.

The pro street look is the shiznit,lol.
I think people forget that what we have is a vega. Tall ,fat tires have there place in camaros and novas. A vega is a little smaller so it should be fine with a smaller tire, IMO

Not trying to bash either but why would you cut up a good car??
I went 9.30's on a hoosier DOT 26x9.50-15 which is 8" tread. Also did it with factory stock torque arm suspension and a sbc on spray at 3200 lbs

Tire technology has came a long way,ecspecially in the last few years.Back in the 70's and 80's you needed a large tire to hook a car.But today the compounds are so much better you need 1/2 the tire to get the job done.And non tubbed Vegas and Monzas are getting harder and harder to find.My opionion is buy a car that is already tubbed or the rear 1/2 is rotted instead of cutting up good ones.

just a short update, looking over the suspension, planning a poly bushing job and boxing the rear arms, ordering and installing the new upper tube a-arms gettin new moroso ft runners and slicks for my 15x8.5 centerlines, running s/s fuel lines with afilter from tank to carb, switching out intake, bigger cam, adding n.o.s. 125 shot system 10pt cage... then poss a gear drive for noise... which all means tons of overtime for toy parts till then i sit in it and dream love these lil cars.....

ok guys just a quick update, been cold here and with kids in scouts and basketball its hard to get hours in on the vega.

scored a great set of 15x8.5 centerlines for my vega to make then tires tuck under the fenderwells, also talked to the builder of the engine who said it could take a 125 powershot of n.o.s. easly, soo thats on the books as anaddition as well.

stay tuned... MIGHT have a set of centerlines 15x10 for cheap but i might keep them for slicks dont know yet...

On the subject, what's the fastest an H-body has gone without tubs? 10's? 9's?

Here's a link to a car I helped put together. 20" Nitto invo's. These aren't even drag radials. Street tires have come a long way.

Non tubbed with stock torque arm stock boxed lca's full interior minus back seat, full exhaust on a 26x8 dot tire it ran 9.40's

The car now has a tubular moly LCA's tubular moly torque arm and anti roll bar.
