GRUMPY "D'S" BAD A** 72 VEGA GT BUILD

Postby grumpy d-bone » Tue Nov 20, 2007 10:55 am

hey guys, this will be a complete as poss build page on my 72 v8 vega gt, i won the car off ebay, its a original 1972 vega "gt" now with a super hot 400 horse 350 steel crank lt rods, "dart" 2:02 aluminum heads, crower cam summitt roller rockers.

car has a ford 9in rearend with 3:55 locker posi, interiot was with the car but stripped for a racing seat, i have since put the orig. bucket seats back in it with the rear folding seat.

i plan on installing a comp eng. 8pt roll cage welded in it, with a aluminum dash panel with auto meter gauges and and a cable drive moroso tach on the dash.

plan on taking the car to a wheel place to see if i can get another set of rear centerlines with a back space to tuck the slicks under the fenderwell.

the car has soo much torque and power its a blast to drive very very throttle responsive, this lil vega is not affraid of any corvette, mustang or z/28 that would care to tangle with it, and im no where near finished yet.

stay tuned i plan to update once a week... this is a great site... guys are awsome..

Nice car, dude..

You need a battery box, though. Those fumes from that battery can kill you.
'72 Vega with '93 Camaro LT1/M29 T56/12 bolt 3.31. 16" IROCs all around. Sanderson headers into duals with an H-pipe and Flowmasters. It's loud but at least it's faster than your grandma's Buick. pwned.

The power to weight ratio of a modified h-body is hard to beat, got to love that! Ignore Nye Sayers!

took the gt off the jack stands and loaded the kids in it 1 at a time and around the neighborhood we went its awsome in this lil gt vega, BOY!!! the 350 really has some torque.... its a blast... well back on the jack stands and will start doing the aluminum dash and door panels patterns soon, followed by a back 1/2 for narrowed ford 9in thats already in the car, want to run 31in street tires on it, will be bringing it to "PINKS ALL OUT" in san antonio texas in march but on trailer only.... stay tuned

I'm not trying to bash you,but why cut up a good Vega, when you could have bought one of thousands already tubbed. On a 26 x 8.5 x 15 slick,we've gone 9.80's by the way.

Thats cool and all but I want at least a 10" tire and since I am going to do the work myself so I know it will be right. IMO also to put some big horses to the ground you will have to cut it. These cars were never expected to put out more than 150 horse power.

i have 15x10 centerlines on it now and would be happy with them if i can narrow the ford 9in in it and put in mini tubs to tuck them inside the edge

this is my Vega with a 26x10.5 ET Street, same as a 26x8.5 ET Drag slick. It's a 15x8 rim with 5.5 inches of back spacing.I could probable lower the car 3 inches in the rear without the tires rubbing.I've personally gone 10.68 with that tire on my car.

How about a Monza with 27x12.5 ET streets running 10.00's in a stock wheel well with a 496 Chevy big block.
The Monza has gone 9.70's with a 468 and a shot of juice.
