I didnt mean any disrespect to Hi winding. I respect what he has done. I just wanted to throw some ideas out there to other folks as I have seen people not reach there expectation. Myself included. I myself am inspired by the cadillac swap I have my eye on a mint caddy and I have the Chevette caddy swap magazine in my possession. I read that article over and over. As for Bill1978V8 reading is fundamental. If you really read my post you would have seen that I clearly stated that My 383 stroker is not running to my expectations. At least a second off, but thanks for making that point clear.-----------Danfigg

Dan,
I did read your post here as well as many others you posted elsewhere about your car not running as well as expected and I meant no offense by my remark (remind me not to post while drinking a few beers). I think all our cars are unique in the way we put them together. Thats what makes our hobby fun. Good luck with your project, I'm sure you'll get it to run the number your looking for when your done.

Doug,

How long does it take to pull the Cad out of your Monza? I'm sure you had it in and out enough to do it in your sleep. If you could, post up some more pics when you get a chance.

Thanks,

Bill

I ordered a redone crank online yesterday and some rods. Stuff aint cheap for a Caddy , thats for sure, but I did find some deals.

Well Bill, Its alot harder than pulling a 151. :? I haven't started yet because I was bummmed out for a few days figuring what to do.

First to go is that stinking Hurst Problematic 2 shifter

Defintaly getting a Soft Touch Rev Control too. :)

Dan , I know what I'm after, so just like the 151, I will get it bulletproof. ( 10 years on that last 151 rebuild) One the guys on the Cadillac forums has 1000 1/4 passes on his motor ( 9 second T bucket ) and is the only one that can do multible hot laps at his track. If I was just starting out like most members here, I would go the SBC route too. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. :)

Would love to see it

Doug,
That thing has GOT to be impressive... just needs the final tweaking like you said. And I would love to see it... plus see the looks on peoples faces when they see and hear what is under the hood.
Dan, all of us have our opinions... and we all have the right to agree or disagree as we feel, no harm no foul on this site. I personally appreciate them all, but I have my personal favorites. One of these days I may eventually get my dream engine built and into a car. 3.8 V6 with Sequential Port Fuel injection, coil packs, full computer control, under the hood Paxton supercharger with intercooler, 4 speed auto shifter and mid 3 posi rear end. Tweak the engine out to about 350 to 375 horses and still get good milage out of it.
These cars are more than just cars to us... at the very least they are a fairly serious hobby, in some cases they are an obbsession, and then there are the guys out there who leave, eat, breath, sleep, and whatever else their cars. But in the end we are all H-body folks who love and appreciate our unloved cars.

Well for everone's info , I plugged in numbers yesterday and came up with these:

2600 lbs - car and driver - estimated ( car is gutted and with the 431 and me its back to stock 151 weight) .

14.27 E.T. ( my best so far)

Ends up with this:

177 Hp at the wheels

216 Hp at the crank with a 18% powertrain loss

This is believable due to the net factory rating of 180 Hp. This of course includes driving the alternator , water pump, PS pump, A/C compressor, and fuel pump.

My motor only drives the water pump and alternator. This means with the overbore and eliminating the other accesories I gained 39 Hp!

I know I've posted this video before.... but I love it.
My parents had a '77 Coupe DeVille like this (but green stamp green in/out). I hated the car as a 16 year old teenager.... except when parking. :D
Anyway, I've been wanting to build one of these ......... Wheel-standing 10 second stock component Caddy.

That was Shawn's car and he competed in "Pinks All Out - Michigan" with it running 9's with sadly a BBC swapped in. The car was sold recently on Ebay or Racing Junk as a rolling chassis to someone overseas. Doug in AZ 8)

With all that Caddy torque your Hbody might be quicker with a warmed over powerglide tranny to kill wheel spin off the line, without deep gearing.

It doesn't spin off the line , only when I hit second gear.

You have to realize this a late 70's smog motor (217 hp) not a 375 hp- 472 or a 400 hp - 500.

The motor is making power -what little of it :D at midrange rpm.

I might add a convertor , cam ,and a early cast intake while the motor is out. Doug in Az 8)

Well here's an update:

I raced the last 2 races in my Silverado and I'm now currently in 12th place in points in Sportsman class . :D

I finally got the motor out of the Monza and tore it down. It wasn't what I was hopeing for, The crank " walked " and tore up 2 main caps and the block. http://forums.h-body.org/viewtopic.php?t=23185

But I found another 425 today 2 miles from my house. It has 49K miles and is rusty looking outside but in great shape.

Now it will be ready for the next points race in May!

Good luck with the new engine. What year 425 did you find?
