Thanks Matt, been working on finishing the hood.

Got my Snell rated helmet Saturday.

I 'll get the first ET results in 2 weeks if all goes good.

Still waiting on some parts from Summit ( safety loop and rear end parts ) to be completely ready for the Test and Tune.

steershaft

Postby 454spyder » Tue Jan 01, 2008 4:20 pm

Cool. I did the same thing to fit the 454. I guess if I had studied it a little more, I might have made it work. Here is a pic of the steering shaft I made for the 454.

Todd, you were on the right way, you just had to go a little farther towards the fenderwell. Doug in AZ 8)

Todd,
so you are the great " Tallen_77346" ? :hail: :hail: :hail: :hail:

Without your inspiration, I would of never attempted this swap. Thanks for doing all the leg work for me.

Cool project

Hey Doug,

I don't know about "great", but thanks. You must have seen some of the pictues of the 500 caddy pics in my Monza I posted a while back. I have them archived on another computer.

tallen_77346. Yeah that's the first site I started putting together almost 8 years ago now. I stopped updating it, because geocities is a PIA.

I think it is really cool that you made it work. I love the idea of something totally different than others are doing. You've really got that going now. The mainstream carcrafting society never builds Monzas anymore. When you take that thing to some local cruise event, people will love it.

Todd,
I never seen pics of your attempt, just what you wrote in the H- body facts section. I wasn't a member of Bob's site till like 2005? Since you did the 454 so nice ,I can only guess what that would of looked like. :D

I was browsing a couple of Cadillac sites a few weeks ago and came across a post stating that someone put a 500 in a Vega but took it back apart stating the car was "all over the place" and too hard to handle. So I'm not the first, I guess.

I kind of think that is believable because when Hot Rod built the " Bad Seed " Chevette 500, they moved the motor back into the drivers compartment to get a better balance of the car.

That car ran a corrected high 11's with a Ford 8" rear, 13" slicks, 76 junkyard block with 68-70 hi compression junkyard heads, junkyard Turbo 400 with stock convertor and single exhaust. Total cost with car was around $ 2300?

I'll know how mine handles in 2 weeks if all goes good. The weight on the front end is in between a V6 with A/C and a SBC.

The car is a race car only , not a street car anymore.

Well, took it to the track today and here are the results :

Pass #1 : - .054 Reaction ( redlight) 2.315 60 ft.-- 16.249 ET --91.512 Mph
.... I was the first run of the day , they had problems getting the lights to work so I sat with other driver after the burnout for 3 minutes at the line till they figured it out . Then my shifter was giving me trouble so it wasn't a good run.

Pass #2: .012 Reaction -- 2.178 60 ft -- 14.38 ET -- 96.528 Mph
....Perfect Run!

Pass# 3: .258 Reaction --2.085 60ft -- 14.971 ET --81.755 Mph
.... Left good ( best 60 ft) but car won't shift out of 2nd gear till allmost the end of the 1/4, then the fan belt fell off.

When the belt fell off, the bolt that is required you to have caught it, but the belt got a deep cut by something and wouldn't stay on anymore so the day was done for me . It was like a " Pinks" disaster episode today anyway because 4 cars blew up and spilled all over the track.

Just need to mess with the shifter and make sure I bring a spare belt next time. The car ran great and nothing broke. Hooked up good and barely spun off the line if I heated the tires up good .

I bet that Caddy fells so much faster. Makes all the work worth it. Plus the wow factor when you open the hood and it's not the SBC people were expecting.

Awesome!

So what rear gear do you think it's gonna need?

Any thoughts on suspension tweaks? I'm betting the caddy puts the power out different enough you're gonna end up changing something.
