Nope no mid plate. I don't even have room for the dipstick tube back there lol.

I'll take some more pics when I visit the shop next. Engine is going on the dyno in a week or so. I should have the headers to test fit any day now too.

OK guys the headers are here and I'm a bit excited. They are 1 3/4 but they seems kinda small/cute lol.

Where the hooker headers for a SBC need a dent on the second pipe to get the steering shaft past it, here the pipe is very tight and close to the manifold.

The passenger side has to kind of get back past the suspension stuff nice and tucks into that small area you need to get them down where the hookers don't even attempt it and one pipe goes right through the wheel well and meets up with the rest of the pipes at the collector area.

Just by looking at it without my car here they look like at least it is a real attempt at mass produced headers in a Vega for a LS1 based motor.
I will have them at the shop tomorrow at lunch to have the guys take a look at them.

They are purdy too!

Well Im not too excited now. I called Dougs Headers and the lady I talked too, even though she didn't seem to know much didn't think they fit a Vega and couldn't even tell me what they fit. She said and I quote, " They fit 64-72 passenger cars" Umm, ok. I left a message for tech support to call me back tomorrow. I then called Summits tech support and the guy helped be for a good 20 minutes and found a lot more then the lady at Doug's did but couldn't confirm they fit my Vega. He actually didn't understand where a bunch of the cars listed on there site as compatible matches came from. I will probably tape them up so I don't scratch them and see if they are anywhere close to fitting tomorrow. The do look like they are close though visually.

Updates tomorrow....

No go. Doug's headers says they never made headers for the Vega and Summit can't explain why its listed as compatible. They are kinda close and I have a guy looking to see if they can be modified to fit but I don't think it will happen. I'm looking at having some made or use some LS7 manifolds I have for the conversion. :(

bummer. :bang: Check out Sanderson headers. They make some shorties that are 1.750" with a 3.00" collector.

That stinks.
What about the S-10 Sanderson's, of course they are only 2 1/2" collector though. (good enough for me if they fit, lol)

http://www.sandersonheaders.com
Just search there for ls1, they only make three diff ones for the ls so far. The S-10 ones stick out farther from the head than the blockhuggers, so not sure if they would work or not.

I have a set of exhaust manifolds off of a C5 Corvette if you might be interested. No idea if they will fit or not. I put an LS1 in a 66 A body and they did not work for that.

You may not want to do this but I thought I'd toss it out there anyway. I noticed a lot of fabrication on you car. You've got to be proficient with a welder; Have you considered fabricating the headers? It takes a long time but it's kinda fun.

I just put my motor in a spare vega, with the camaro factory exhaust it looks like they will both work?
I will have to turn the drivers side flange about 60 degrees but they both fit! Did you try them?
