well,, I took about 4 days to put the interior back together,, there is simply no room behind the dash for anything,, much less for the vintage air I used

then a step backwards.......
I took the Vega for about 30 mile drive last saturday,,throttle response was magnificent,,quick 1/3rd throttle was spinning easily :th:
Man,,, that was so much fun  it's been 7yrs since it was on the road.. drove and tuned on the fly a little with the megasquirt2, cruised quite well, the 4th gear lock-up converter worked bringing the rpms down to 1k at about 45mph :th: it was bucking a little with the bigger cam at that rpm,, added 2 degrees of timing in that area of the map and it went away.. (hoping for 30mpg when done) :bump: turning was a little rough,, (toe in) was about 1"   then the PS pump started whining,,, went home and the reservoir was empty,, refilled and was looking at the toe-in and noticed the
seals had blown out on each end of the rack :bang: ,,,,,, gm rack should handle the GM PS pump pressure.. so a rebuild kit is on the way and a pressure reducing kit for the pump is here.. taking it down to about 1000psi.. hopefully my buddy and I can get the rack back together and make it work.. but still, it was a BLAST!! :D
thanks for looking!!

Tinker I hope you don't follow in the foot steps of many, finish your car and stop visiting or worse yet sell. I (and many others I am sure) am (are) happy to see this coming up finished, and not like many to a HIGH standard you do all of us proud with a fine looking and apparently fine functioning H-Body all we need now is some proof of RUBBER! :th: :burn: :burnout: Harry

Cluster looks good dude! Why did you light up the area behind the gauges?

Harry,
I had built a 70 pro-street camaro before this one,, and like a dumba$$ I sold it,, but it was a single purpose vehicle.
if this one goes to someone else, they will pay a fortune for it,lol, or I'm just plain broke and starving,, too much time and pain in
this build, plus I have always wanted a vega since my sister had one before I could drive. I will always be on here,, too much innovative
thinking here not to see what everyone else is doing,, I think we are a weird bunch car guys and I like it that way.. I had the wife ready with the
camera to do the drive but the rack had a different idea..
thanks again for the kind comments from everyone..

Zeke,
at the bottom of the gage pod/cluster(?) there are vents that let light out, it gives light to the windshield wiper, headlight and ac/heat controls,,
a green glow somewhat, or at least I think it does,, haven't driven at night yet? if not I wasted 6 bucks on leds!!

Ah, that makes sense then. Did you use leds and resistors for the autometer gauges as well? Just curious how you mounted them in the gauges.

I really like the matching carbon fiber insert in the door panel. Really nice. I can't imagine a "cool" interior on a V8 Vega mine
is so hot on the inside lol.

Nice job and looking forward to you getting that rack fixed so we get our video.

Excited for you that you are so close to finishing. I'm jealous (but thrilled) that you got to take your first test drive too! Nothing like that first drive to get you motivated to finish the car! Looking awesome inside by the way!

no carbon fiber,, just a vinyl wrap over a aluminum panel,, same as the door inserts..
Thanks Ken..

Great to see you got it out for a spin. Hopefully you can solve the rack problem relatively easy.
Have any problems with wheel hop? Automatic usually more forgiving on that thou.
Just curious.
Mine is horrible with the 5spd.
