Did the Monza estate wagons have woodgrain on the tailgate while the sunbirds did not?

That would explain another RPO code for the estates YC6 that added another woodgrain decal on the tailgate. And why the RPO's description is also woodgrain.

Or was one code for the stickers and another code for the Dashboard trim???

The Sunbirds did have a small woodgrain piece on the tail. Between the taillight, under the licence plate, you can see it in the background here ... http://monza.homestead.com/BX3.html

stickers and Dashboard trim? lost me there!

As for what your talking about, if i understand you correctly, wouldn't that mean the production figures would be higher than the YC6, if they put woodgrain on some wagons that were not Estate' ones (The Estate numbers plus whatever else there were)?

Unless they did not seperate BX3 from YC6. If you have a YC6 then this includes BX3 but if you don't have YC6 but you do have BX3 then there is your small total. Just my guess.

I don't have any info on what all was included with the Estate wagon. Brian

That is entirely possible too.

Unfortunately the Sunbird material doesn't get into a lot of detail about the woodgrain option, in fact no detail whatsoever, didn't even have a name (like Chevy's Estate), it was just an RPO Code option, nothing more elaborate. I can look up the Chevy info on the Estate though, their info seems to be always a lot more detailed.

Of course, all these numbers were firing around are for the Chevy Estate, nothing at all for the Sunbird woodgrain paneling. D'OH!

What I meant was .. for example, was BX3 for the Woodgrain Decal's on the body of the car, and then YC6 for the Woodgrain trim in the interior? Or Vice-versa.

I think that YC6 is the RPO that defines an Estate Wagon (name/model). BX3 just happens to be the woodgrain on the exterior.

I have a 76 price book but it does not define the Estate Wagon option by itself except for some items when they are combined with the GT option etc. It shows that RPO AN6 (adjustable seat back, 2 position) D31 (inside day/night rearview mirror) included with the YC6, these are a couple of other RPO's included.

If you wanted the GT option RPO Z29 on a Station Wagon it cost you $429.15

If you wanted the GT option RPO Z29 on an Estate Wagon it cost you $340.15

You can see on the report pages that in the "Models" column when the RPO BX3 is shown the model column number is for the Station Wagon and not the Estate.

YC6 on the report shows the total amount of Estate Wagons made.

Only 42 with BX3? That was a pretty rare monza I was looking at. The call BX3- "Equipment". Hmm... The roof rack? there must have been more than 42 with those.. Was there some extra special woodgrain not used on the regular Monza estate?

I think it is all figured out for the Monza Estate Wagon, which is a YC6 option code, and included the BX3 and whatever else was part of the Estate package when ordered. I also have on the '1978 Vehicle Ordering Guide' that says ...

Woodgrain Paneling: standard on Monza Estate (YC6)
Station Wagon ..........................................1HM15 BX3 201.10 183.00 170.41 166.31 (last 4 numbers are costs - MSRP, list, invoice, dealer)

So obviously you could order a base wagon, get the woodgrain paneling added without an Estate package, which would explain the price difference (less) that Brian showed in his last post.

Unfortunately none of this clears up the Sunbird question, or gets us closer to figures for the woodgrain paneling. Not that it is a huge issue, i started the page figuring it was a unique Wagon option, like the Estate was to the monza Wagon, but it is just a woodgrain paneling, not a 'true' option. I'll keep the page up for the hell of it anyway. no point in erasing work I've already done.

Starting to run out of options and unique H-bodies to post pages on now. Just finishing up pages on all the 4 H-Body postcard sets that GM made, as well as the Topps set from 1977. Plenty to keep me busy even if I'm running out of production cars to post about.

Great minds think alike, I had started aquiring pics of the boxes of various H-Body plastic models a number of years ago, so I had thought of going that route, eventually.
