I have a little new information and hopefully it may lead to more down the road. Sloan is going to let me go through their microfilm from the Lordstown plant for 78 & 79. I've been told I can record the info anyway I choose and that the information I find must be shared with them. Before I go I'll ask for a sample to be sure just what I'll be looking at. What I've been told is that the info is similar to the cowl tag so with that I should see all the Roadhawks and Designer Accent Skyhawks. Hopefully at least we will have the total numbers made for 79. 78 maybe a wash depending on what data is there. But if I can get pictures and the data shows up (never have tried to take a picture of a microfilm display) we'll have a ton of data on colors and interiors. I hope there is a little more data and that the picture thing will work.
I've emailed George Zapora and Vintage Vehicle Services has all the records on the 73 & 74 Pontiac Astre. George is probably dead tired of me
What the heck here is the email. The first one is from Feb. 09
George,
I'm hoping you can help with an explanation for these codes on the Car
Report for the SkyHawk in 1977. All SkyHawks for 1977 were produced in
Canada so I thought of you
I know all the RPO codes and it appears
that groups of these were combined and given additional codes. Hopefully
there is a key to decoding these additional codes! I certainly appreciate
any help you can give me. Sloan said Buick donated the reports but gave
no info on the codes.
I just have to ask also if anyone there can shed some light on the SkyHawk
with the L77 engine? That car would be fun if the data is correct it was
the only 1977 SkyHawk made with a 350 V8 4bbl engine. WOW!
The second page show the codes I'm refering to. Thanks, Brian Jackson
Sorry Brian but those would be sales codes, no listing of what they mean,
They could refer to marketing programs or delivery schedules. No idea what
L77 is doing there, that is problem when someone gives you data that has
no meaning....
Thanks and regards:

Hey George,
Well it is that time of year again for me to ask more questions. Would
you know if an Option Breakdown Report for the 1973 & 1974 Canadian built
and sold only Pontiac Astre exist? I had to ask the H body club members
are looking for this information since we got the Pontiac Option Reports
for the Astre and Sunbird from 1975 to 1980 from GM Heritage. They also
have 1973 & 1974 Pontiac reports but they do not include the Astre.
Second and last question (this email anyway) I know you have told me
research is only done by VIN number but is it possible to get general
information from your data base without using the VIN? I'm guessing all
the data you have has been transferred to a program that allows you to
complete the vehicle option information? I'm dreaming that with the model
and some options you could find the car? I don't want the VIN or any
other info that only the owner should have I'm just trying to add to the
history of these cars.
Keep all the cold air up there in Canada and I want your job when you
retire. Thank you, Brian Jackson
Brian, we have info on the Astre but it is on a per vin basis only sorry,
the fees are used to maintain the equipment, computers, rent and salaries,
we have to pay our own way. Happy Mew Year.

George, I don't expect something for nothing. As far as the Astre goes
seeing production option total information might get owners to buy the
Vehicle Option info from you.
If you could find the Skyhawk I'm interested in and give me the information
(except the VIN) I would pay the fee for that.
I think everybody should pay their own way =)
Brian
I'm still waiting to a response on the last email so maybe he is looking into it or maybe I'll never hear from him again
He has been nice enough it just kills me to think of all the information they have yet they're not willing to show it any other way than what the are.
Maybe if he gets a few Astre requests he'll think twice? It jumped up last year to $70.00+ I would be curious to know how many Astre's he looks up in a year. I did order one for my red Hawk today.
