1975 Vega GT

Postby BadBowtie » Sat Mar 13, 2010 8:19 pm

Well since my project is finally getting work done to it i figured id post pictures and keep whoever wants updated. This is a 1975 Vega GT. Its going to be a daily driver with a sbc v8, wide ratio muncie and ford 9" (3.55 w/posi). Current plans for the motor include a L79 327 that i'm supposed to get within the next following weeks. Im going to run a hydraulic clutch so that i can run a camaro/nova bellhousing. Im currently planning the balljoint swap on some S10 balljoints once i get my car back from storage. Im looking to run a 205-225/60/15 in front and 235-255/60/15 in the rear on third generation camaro z28 mags. The car is currently a stock 4 cyl rebuilt with an auto transmission. For exhaust i plan on attempting to wait it out and get some Don Hardy headers because id like to use the full advantage of longtubes vs sanderson shorty's (Im going to run v8 motor mounts and i dont want to cut my car up so no hookers for me). Suspension wise im going to run 3rd gen camaro rear springs, and monza front springs/shocks all around. The car will be also setup all around for standard chevy bolt pattern.

I've been lurking and commenting slowly around the forum and i figure id finally show my project! its pretty low budget compared to some builds and i only get parts when i can find deals so it does take some time. Feel free to comment :D . Also ive got an original tent for my car (sorry not for sale)

The car is originally from B.C. canada and its now in Montreal (Quebec). Funny story while i was talking to Dave (daves vega village) he actually knew the car, it was from his town and he had tried to buy it from the woman who owned it at the time! Talk about a small world! Eventually it got passed down to the people i bought it from! :th:

Im not sure cause i dont have my car here yet, but do you think they would be the same as second generation camaro's? they look the same but i'm not sure if their slightly smaller.

The LCA brackets i designed on AutoCAD, if only my engineering teachers could see what ive done now haha. Its cool because you can pretty much do anything, like for instance i changed the diameter of the curved cut to fit the diameter of the 9".

Well I'm no longer running a 327 but rather a stout 350 because the motor is going into my fathers car (so I'm saving cash) and I've got an oil pan that looks like it will have the required shape for clearance, i think its something like 75-79 corvette hi pro. 350 pan. Also I picked up a 26x19x3 dual core (accepts up to 3 core) radiator from a 67-69 camaro. Not sure if it needs to be re-cored, but its the perfect size and it has mounting brackets already installed, its NOT aluminum, but with a good water pump and good fan i should be in the clear.

Hopefully i will be getting the car out of storage soon! 8)

Just got both my cars out of storage! Cant wait but we've been having some bad weather but doing what i can. Due to cost i'll be using my fathers old engine, 350 that has about 390 ft/lbs and 360 hp estimated power, needs a good cleaning/paint  . Not much room here especially with my fathers camaro being restored in the garage/coming out at the end of the month.

So im prepping to get my 72 cuda tail lights grafted into the back, i'm using a 72 camaro tail panel which cost $94 versus the Chrysler part which is well over $500... and i managed to score a set of Don Hardy Headers! The cool part about the tail lights is that the Vega lights actually fit perfectly in the cuda tail lights and the cuda tail lights fit perfectly into the camaro tail panel haha

Also i found the original dome light under the rear seat, its a shame i just bought another brand new in the box
