Monza Harry gave me some tips on polishing, I didnt have the full range of sandpaper but it turned out alright. Once its all together in the car I'll decide if I want to leave it the way it is, make it smoother or maybe I'll sandblast it for a natural finish (or some combination of the two). In the end its just a fuel block

Small update, just finished school so I started working on the car again. Pulled my intake off and ordered some parts to finally get the crossram on. I never get tired of looking at this engine.

While I'm waiting for parts I'm working on my spare hood, its in decent shape but missing hinges and had hood pins installed. I've cut my own hinges, repaired the hood pin situation and now I'm working on repairing some rust on the underside of the hood. Once that gets done I will set up and weld my hinges, cut out some of the factory reinforcement (to clear the dual carbs) and then strip the hood before putting it all in primer. I'm looking forward to using paint stripper since the hood appears to have 4-5 layers of paint/primer and in some places a lot of bondo (only to find steel underneath so far). These are the only pictures of the hood I have.

Did you ask the hood's previous owner why he thought a steel lift-off hood was a good idea?

I didn't, but I mean obviously saving that 1/2 lbs was crucial... Between that and the 1/8" of primer/paint and bondo in some places covering unrusted metal the previous owner just confuses me. Fortunately for me it was the only hood I could find as a spare.

Bunch of small updates

Worked on the hood, started patching it up and got some aircraft paint stripper, will be posting pictures of that once I have time.

Now im working on getting fuel lines made for the intake, turns out I cant bend lines tight enough to place the fuel block where I wanted, Im currently looking at other alternatives/AN fittings/soft line/etc, kind of a setback but Im searching/testing for a solution. Id like to use the fuel block I made if I can so it might take some time.

Good news is I took a chance on a distributor I've never seen/test fitted and its going to work with my intake, the rear intake runner is generally a problem and my old one didnt fit.

Looks like you could use the standard holley dual feed supply tubes. Then, the fuel Y could be back on the firewall.

I was thinking about this , but going forward since I have a mechanical pump, id need to make it shorter and make the lines hug the carb to clear the extra linkage. Also I'm trying to keep the area above the valvecovers clear, its a bit tricky!

Thanks Vegabee but I still have my original hood in the factory color too so I'm good! I'll be cutting the spare up significantly after I fix it up.

Figured out a solution, I had to compromise a bit on air cleaner options but I think its going to work well. Cant wait to get this on the motor in the next few weeks (hopefully)!

After researching parts and prices I will possibly convert everything to AN line/fittings ($$$) down the road, but for now I'm going to make sure it works and runs well.

Cut what was left of the old hinges off, decided I'm going to bolt the new hinges on to allow adjustment (unlike my original hood), I will weld in some plugs after I do some more measuring and grinding. I tacked together the new hinges and test fit them, everything seems to fit well.

For the intake I have to wait till the end of next week for a frost plug to block the oil breather tube.
