I know the feeling Jason , every time I come home off the road I pull in the garage behind my 73 and think " if I hadn't started cuttin that up I could of dropped the 400 in and be drivin it now " but I like to do the fab work .
If you haven't yet check this out http://toddperkinsdesign.com/?page_id=40 towards the bottom of the pics they show a pic of the hood opener , with your hinges you could do some thing like that only better , it's in a post in general discussion and now I forgot what the title is  and I seem to be the only one that likes it :?

The post is " Anybody seen this one " by waybad .

Gil,
I can't even begin to comprehend the amount of work that had to have gone into that Vega!!! :D I like the hood opening mechanism and the way they are mounted to the hood hinge!! I would like to see it in action! I am also curious to find out what exactly the hood opening mechanism is and how it works! I wonder if you could adjust the speed on the opener so it doesn't throw your hood across the room, or take an hour to open. haha

Smiley,
First off i like your username, my nickname is smiley!! hahaha I am not sure where we got the rubber blocks from. My dad has been out of town so I haven't had a chance to ask him where they came from. Ill find out when he gets back, should be tomorrow sometime. Thank you for the complement!! :th:

Here is what i have been working on lately. The machines that we use to bend the material isn't readily available, so when we do need something bent we try especially hard to get it right the first time. So I decided to layout the pattern for the transmission cooler bracket on AutoCAD. Once you develop the 2D version, with this drawing, it is fairly simple to turn it into a 3D model. The program already has realistic metal textures programed into the rendering. Its pretty cool getting to see the finished product before you even start building :D

Smiley, I finally found out what the rubber blocks for our radiator mount are from. They are from a Terex Telelect Linebed ( I work for an electric utility). These blocks are normally mounted on the outrigger outer tubes on a stud to secure the hydraulic steel lines to the tube. They are used with a steel u shaped bracket, nut, and washer. They are probably available from Terex but I bet the Caterpillar dealer or John Deere would have something similar and easier to obtain. Dave.

I had the same problem with my headers, especially on the drivers side, i recommend bolting the #7 tube in first, then bolt in the #5 & 3.. then i used a jack to push up on the flange on the collector on the bottom, and this brought the #1 into alignment that i could then bolt in... oh, and a Napa Gold Short Oil Filter is the only one that provides clearance from my 408 and the header.

Do you have any plans for the gas tank or filler ?
I find the under the bumper gas filler a pain, and the stock tank a bit small. A 68 Camaro tank and above the bumper filler is on my to do list. I have also thought of using 68 Camaro tail lights but that is way down the list.

Hi Smiley this is Dave, Jason's dad. We have talked about a larger gas tank like a Camaro, but would have to modify the floor quite a bit . We need this car to be rolling down the road for now and that would be a later project. Thanks for your interest in Jason's project.

Waybad this is Dave, that's my 56 Chevy pickup across the street. I had a local guy install a late 70's Camaro subframe under it and Jason has been helping me put it back together. We moved it across the street to get Vega pics. Thanks Dave.
