my dad and i built a 72 GT wagon back when i was 15 , i miss them good ole days , hope you and your son have a great time
first and best car owned 72 GT(changed to SS) panel wagon

im shure you know already but make shure that rear is a two wheel drive one it should be 54.5 inches wide axle flange to axle flange. 4x4 is too wide.

I was a bit worried about the rear end because I measured it and it is in fact 58.5 wide so I put the axles back in, slid it under the car and set the rims on it. Using American Racing Outlaw 15/8 with 3.5 offset looks like it is going to work just fine. In fact I might need to put 1/2 inch spacers on each side.
