Making windows... trying to flush them with the body. This is too much work.

I need to get to the track before the snow flies.

When I was cutting the Lexan for the windows in my Vega, I thought briefly about going flush, but changed my mind for a couple of reasons. One of the biggest reasons was the difficulty in finding something to use as a spacer under the glass. also I was concerned about shearing off all the little studs that the molding clips snap onto; once they're gone it's hard to find proper replacements if I wanted to go back. I also decided that by using the OEM trim it would hide all the screws in the windshield and hatch glass. With your wagon I guess all you'd be concerned with would be the windshield. I've seen Vega(and other sedans) side windows bolted on the outside, not into the stock channel and I didn't like it. Having all the screws(or rivets) exposed may add to the all-business look of a race only car, but it just didn't work for me.
Now that it's all done, I really like the look of all the shiny OEM trim; I still have to do the doors with the GT bright window trim so it will match the rest of the car. At some point when the car actually has (shiny) paint on it, I may change all the trim to matte black.

I hear ya, I had to think long and hard about a way to space them out as well… and it is somewhat a dynamic problem with variable thickness required but I think I finally figured out the perfect solution somewhat by perfect timing of a material. It also had to be fastened to the body prior to installing the or fitting the lexan. I wish I would have asked around before I tried to invent the wheel, I am sure others have done it.

I like your method of hiding the screws with the oem trim, I decided to go with a modern race car look over the 70’s trim styling by flush mounting and making a black border around perimeter. Right now I am using stainless button heads but may find black or paint them black, not sure, it matches the wheels wich screws around the perimeter.

For door windows mine are in the channel, mounting to the outside was an option but closer look it pushes the window outside of the B-pillar. All screws are exposed, this car is a POS and its more work to hide stuff, this car simply isnt worth the bolts I put on it let alone my time which is why I am mad I spent the time to flush them out in the first place. it’s an H-body so the value will never exceed 5k no mater what I do to it, it should be in a junkyard. I busted all the pins/rivets that hold the factory trim like you said I needed to for the spacer.

The good thing about this car is I will never be tempted to sell it since it has no value LOL! Who wants a vega wagon with a driveway primer job?

As someone who also has a "driveway primer" paint job, I'll tell you the same thing that I tell everybody who asks when I'm going to paint the car; "at 138mph, you can't see the unfinished body work"! I call it my "100ft or 100grit" paint job.

I started my drag car project late in 2009 with the purchase of a bare chassis with a body hung on it. I had visions of going racing in 2010; HAH! It took me until June 2012 to get down the track for the first time, missing 2 races at the nearest track. I sure am glad I wasn't embarrassed about bringing it out in primer; if I was to wait until everything was done, I never would have got to race it for at least another year. A big project can get bogged down in so many ways, but yours runs and drives now, so no matter what it looks like, tell yourself it's 99% done. :)
By all means use my words; I've gotten quite a few chuckles out of them around here.

WOW! I'm somewhat partial to the "black suede" anyway, but I think it would look awesome in any color.
How does it run?
