1980 Olds Starfire Project, L33 5.3 litre

Postby bill1978v8 » Sun Apr 17, 2011 5:56 pm

After a long search for a Monza, I found a 1980 Oldsmobile Starfire. I want to thank Doug in AZ :th: and Mario in CA :th: for looking at it for me. It is getting picked up 4/18 or 4/19 and will be shipped from California to Pennsylvania. It is a 151 four cylinder with an auto transmission. It is an A/C car with power steering, power brakes, and a tilt wheel. According to Bryan McCreedy's website it is one of 8,237 made in 1980. My plans are to put an LS motor in it and keep the A/C, PS and PB. I'm going to upgrade the brakes and rearend to five lug and install a set of Olds SSII Rallye wheels. I'll detail everything here and update when I can.

Thanks,

Bill

Super cool. I'm glad someone who could do that car up right, saved it. It's awesome that it's not going to be the usual culprit, the Monza. Can't wait to see the progress.

I bought an engine today, an 05 5.3 L33 complete with all accessories. I've seen two stories about the HP rating, 315 and 330 hp. I think it'll be enough either way. I'll get some pics when I pick it up.

Bill - I saw that car on Craigslist. I'm glad someone saved it. Let me know if you need any Starfire only parts. Jeff

It is a 3D07 which makes it one of 2548 made in 1980. Still waiting...

Oh the delays... It was picked up yesterday at 11 am. It should be here in about a week but I would say 10-14 days. The L33 was delayed as well and should be ready for pick up next week. I can't wait to start this project. What should I call it? Rocket 80? I gotta read up on Oldsmobile's.

That is the best commercial since the Ram Air firebird pulled up to the light and ate a Lambo. My goal for this project is a very streetable 10.50 car. Last one went 11.50's so I hope to do better but with a/c, ps, and pb.

I hope not! I had Mario in CA go and look at it. I know these guys are brokers that sold the car for an older guy. He called me and said all the paper work is being mailed to me. I should see all that tomorrow.
