Installed a Vintage air gen II mini into my monza

Postby dc8fixer » Wed Nov 23, 2011 1:53 am

Well, It wasn't easy. As far as I know I am the first to install a Vintage air system into a monza. I used the Gen II mini. It works absolutely fantastic. I used the 12X24 condenser, the diamaond shaped bulkhead, and the corvette compressor brackets. The compressor does not lug the engine down at all at idle! Pictures for your viewing pleasure...

I'm looking to add A/C to my Vega too. I see that in your second photo you have a section with tape on it saying "cut out". I guess you cut that out and seal up the hole? I'm also about to plate my firewall to cover the heater core opening and the fans round hole. that's OK isn't it? As I understand you pull the air from the interior w/ the aftermarket A/C units?
Thanks,
Roger

I have a HOTROD air kit in my '72 Vega, it works really good and is nice to have on hot days. It took some tweeking to get it to fit nicely under the dash, but the effort was worth it.

Cheers,
Tim

Yes, i removed that vacuum actuated door and box. Then i installed a plate sealing it off from the kick panel. I still have the kick panel "pull for fresh air" in place. But living in Houston it will probably never get used. I installed my bulkhead plate (for the heater and a/c fittings) In the area that the blower motor squirrel cage used to be. Thats why i cut out that piece for room to get to the fittings. Yes the vintage air unit recirculates the cabin air. I also ran my evaporator drain line to the kick panel area. rather than drill any holes in the tunnel or firewall.
