Moving to the fuel system.
I had a product certificate from Aeromotive good at Motor State Distributing, so I was going to use the Phantom set-up. But as you may know; my stock 73 tank was small (11 gallons) and offset to the right side. On the left side is the now useless spare tire well. I figured there had to ne a better way.
Inside so rust free I almost felt guilty....
I had seen a few guys here modify the trunk floors and install the 69 Camaro tank. I mostly followed waybad's lead on this.
I used my product certificate and purchased an Aeromotive Stealth tank for a 69 Camaro from Motor State Distributing. The tank is made by Tanks Inc, but it comes with an Aeromotive 340 LPM pump (too much for a stock LS1) I also purchased a pair of reproduction 69 Camaro trunk floor braces (where the tank actually attaches).
The tank comes powder coated silver with the fuel pump module installed.
I tried to save as much of the original floor as possible, also found the trunk braces fit better flip flopped (left to right, & right to left)...in hindsight I should have bought 67-68 Camaro braces.; there's no left or right.
at this point but the tank was hanging too low for my liking. So I hacked away!
I visited a local Camaro restoration parts distributor and purchased an imported 69 Camaro trunk floor for $65.
It was a bit of work to get it to fit right so it looked like it belonged there.
I wanted easy access to the fuel pump so I built this access panel into the floor
The filler neck was about an inch too high. The neck is brazed into the tank so we needed to heat the crap out of it to get the filler neck out.
Then we cleaned it up and brazed it back in where I needed it.
The filler neck ended up behind the license plate just like the original.
