pulled the traction bar things that were on it off and installed my new adjustable rear shocks. they are a touch short but i plan to lower the car anyway.

That extra piece on the lower control arm bolt is part of a add on "traction bar". I actually had a set of these at one time. They ran parallel to the stock arm and had stiffer bushings on them. They were designed to stiffen up the existing bar without actually replacing it. Looks like someone cut off the bar and just left the stub in place. I didn't care for them and removed them after a short while. I think they were made by Don Hardy.

6.5 wont take too much, but you can get a later year s10 2wd rear axle and transfewr the brackets off your 6.5 onto the s10 rear axle and it will bolt right in, bigger everything.7.625 ring gear, posi, and 28 spline axles. Most 4 cyl s10's have either 3.73 or 4.10 gears. most v6 s10's have 3.42 gears, you need a 2wd s10 rear axle from 90-2003 or somethin.
I bet you can find a guy right there who can weld the brackets on for you...lol
