Im like you, the holes were existing, the old owner had something mounted there with 4 holes, i used 2 of them for the tach, thats why it doesn't look perfect or centered on the driver.

the rest of the dash is in pretty decent shape, its all coming out to get a steel one installed that fits more with the racecar theme.

The factory one does the same thing but with a sliding action (there were 2 versions used on torque arm rear suspensions), this is required as the three arms are of two different lenghts and therefore rotate at different radii through the rear suspension travel (ie: they would bind without at least one moveable joint) I am sure that one of us can find a picture if you need it. Hope this clears this up for you. Harry

thanks for explaining that harry, i didn't know that either, the kit was a transdapt kit, and that portion of it was in there when i bought the car, it had a 350 SBC when i bought it, but i got convinced that a 408SBC would be an awesome rebuild, so i pulled the engine and started cleaning out all the old parts and kits. that piece stayed on vs the new transdapt because that one was beefier than the one I got with the kit. we put in the SCI Ignition (its just a more expensive 6al), rewired the whole car (Again) with relays and moved the battery to the trunk, all new stainless fuel line from the original tank all the way up to the regulator, last night just finished running the new shifter cable, and we are now moving the switch down to the bumper to make the trunk more functional. pulled the harmonic balancer to find the small leak and discovered a helicoil, that promptly backed itself out and f'ed itself, so i now have to fix that. but the car is getting closer every day... im getting excited.

so went to the track, got a 12.22 out of a light first pass, car felt stable, now to change the oil and checkup on the car, backed off the drivers side rear header and a few other bolts too, didn't have 3rd gear so it was faster in the 1/8th than the 1/4 car looks to have an 11 or a 10 in its future.

hey seeker. nice race car you built. hope to see you on you tube going fast(10s). question, do you have any clearance problem with the spark plugs with the wires installed. alot of guys have a clearance with the #1 boot and maybe on pass side(?). do you have straight or angled plugs. i have the 2129 headers and straight plugs and i havent checked the clearance problem(if there is one) . thanks art

ive got the 90 degree boots on it and no clearance issues, had to use a napa gold short oil filter to clear the header, its hard to get a ratchet in there to tighten the plugs, but thats why sparkplug sockets have a wrenching surface on them. ill take some pics of the boots this weekend when im working on the car.
