1975 Vega Wagon Project

Postby 408Fairmont » Tue Jan 07, 2014 11:32 am

Hi everyone, I just picked up a 1975 Vega wagon project from another member on here. Its super clean, had a 350 in it, the interiors pretty beat but I am real happy with it overall. I havent done anything to it yet, other then polishing the rims lol, but Im pretty excited about getting started on it. My plan as of now is to swap in a 4.8 or 5.3 from a 99-03 GM pickup, Ive been researching whats needed for parts and it seems fairly easy. I want to keep it all stockish, except for camaro headers, oil pan and the intake so it fits. I hope it fits under the stock hood so it looks as low key as possible.

Couple of pictures.

This is the super nice side, the passenger side door has a big scratch so I need to repaint it, and the QP has a dent from a tire coming off. Also I forgot what the color is called, so Phil if your reading this, what is it?! lol

I have been crazy at work with snow clearing but I hope Ill have some good updates soon. Step one is going to be pulling an engine from our local wreckers(Kenny U-pull) in the snow. I also need to finish some welding and painting on a bug so I can get the vega in the garage.

Cool project; LS swaps are everywhere. Not to split hairs, but the car is wearing a 76-77 grill.

Yep they sure are, I have been looking at the ls swapped vega that Car-craft did an article on a while ago(RIP) and thinking it would be a ton of fun to do the same. I have a 1981 Fairmont wagon that I swapped in a 5.0L with mustang suspension and bigger sway bars thats a ton of fun in the twisties, and drag racing, and this little guy should be a thousand pounds lighter and have around hundred more HP.

It was a 76 imported to Canada in late 75, and titled as one... lol j/k There has been parts swapped sometime in the past, and thats ok by me.

Car looks alot better at your place than it did in my dad's driveway. Also I don't ever remember the rims looking that good when I owned it.

The colour is a GM colour called 'black sapphire metallic' sprayed over a black base

My old 76 GT was very similar; it was black sunfire metallic(a Chrysler Cordoba color I think) and in what I guess restores balance to the universe, had a 75 grille and headlight buckets.

I like how your old vega looked spencer, the stance and rims are awesome. Thats how I want the wagon to sit when its together.

You need to update your thread Phil! Thanks for the color though.

I really loved that old black GT; it was a blast to drive. Realistically, it had too much torque for the suspension/tires so it would spin pretty well anytime, anywhere. But I was much younger then.......
If you check my signature(or my back yard) you will find it's still there slowly rusting away. I had always intended to use the bodyshell to drop onto a tube chassis, but it's pretty far gone. The 400 is still usable as a core, and the stock width 9" Ford will no doubt end up in a future project. The poor old Saginaw has seen use in at least 4 different Vegas, it should probably be retired.
Now 408Fairmount may have his thread back.

Great looking wagon!!!! Now I need help!! I'm looking for a Vega parts car with title since i have gotten for ahead of myself on my 76 hatchback but only one problem! No title. I'm in n.y.,my car last registered in pa.in 1995!! Any advise????? Remember,we are talking about a almost 40 year old Chevy Vega, not a 2014 corvette!!!! Looks like the only way to do this is with a title from another Vega,!!!! I have family in law enforcement and my Vin. Does not come up stolen!! Any suggestions or parts car with title around buffalo n.y.???? Again vega.,not corvette or anything of great value. I don't plan to ever sell this car, will be going to my son in the somewhat distant future!!! F.B.I need not apply,I already have one in my family,!!! :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang:

Great looking project car, and your newly-polished rims look great too! (might want to buy some more lugnuts for those rims though)

Good luck.. can't wait to see more updates.
