The previous owner installed these really cool (high dollar) hood latches but the hood was sitting too high in the front. I couldn't adjust the pins any lower because they were welded to the radiator support panel. Looks like they were welded because there isn't enough space to use nuts. They were also welded at the wrong angle so I used a cut-off wheel to remove them. I ordered replacement pins from Quik-Latch and will do some modifications to gain clearance for mounting them with nuts. Then the pins can be easily removed to install other hoods. Such as the original hood.

Don't know how I've missed your project before, but those bumpers look killer! Timely info for my 79 Monte Carlo project. Thanks for including the product numbers. Your car is coming along great!

Thanks. I'm happy to hear some info in my thread was helpful and good luck with your Monte Carlo. I especially like Monte Carlos. Any body style. They are great cars.

I don't recommend painting outdoors for many reasons but my backyard paint job is turning out great. I was fortunate to have many perfect days throughout the winter for painting and was very few bugs. I did get a couple tiny gnats in the paint but were quickly removed and covered the affected area with a little extra paint. I still need to sand and buff the entire car to remove any orange peel and other minor imperfections.

I painted the headlight buckets and upgraded to new Halogen headlights.

Sanded and primed mirrors. The passenger side had a couple casting flaws which Iooked like dents. I made them disappear with a little body filler.

I also painted the new NOS front bumper cover and installed a new weatherstrip for the hatch.

This brings my project journal up to date. Next I will install the front bumper, mirrors and hood pins.
