Starting my 1971 pro street Vega build

Postby TOM71VEGA » Mon Feb 08, 2016 5:15 pm

Picture of my 50,000 mile rust free Vega, before I gutted it for a pro street build.
More updates to come as the build is underway.

Made sure it was level on jack stands before starting any work. Stitch welded all seams in front and cut for bigger radiator. Welded angle iron under lower core support for extra strength. Did some paint work so I can put on the new front end parts. Also cut the back out for the 4 link back half.

Thanks guys
Rear tires and rims are here, they should fill the back up good.

That looks like a NICE donor to start with! :th: SWEET! That has to be one of the cleanest Vega's we've seen on here in awhile. :D Harry

Thanks Harry
It is a southern car that was in storage since 1980, the battery tray was toast from the acid. Some sheet metal work cleared that up.
Other than that it is very clean. I wanted a rust free foundation for my pro street project.
Back half will be here this week, will post pictures then.

At first I was going to do the mini tub, but after I added up the time to move the control arm mounts in.
I went for the back half with a modest size tire of 15.5 inch wide. Sure a 20 inch wide tire would have been great, but with a 500hp sbc the 15.5 would be enough.

Ok 4 link back half arrived today. I have the back braced ford 9 inch. QA1 adjustable coil overs, with wishbone track locator and anti roll bar. Moser axles 31 splined. Looks pretty nice.

That is a good looking skid! Look forward to the grafting in photos.

Art's comment got me curious and I found this page, lots of neat stuff.

The whole setup you see on the skid including the Moser axles, were done by Checkered racing in Spencer IN.
It was 2500.00 shipped to a business address, it is 100.00 more to a home address.
I had a guy named TJ in PA build my aluminum 9 inch center section. The rear brake kit I have.

It took 2 weeks from the time I ordered it, to the time it arrived at my door.
