Spent much of the day filling pits and deteriorated urethane, and sanding. Front covers are primed and sealed and ready for paint tomorrow. I have such a problem waiting for paint to dry. I have to find something to occupy my time so I spent a little time with putting some of the interior parts in.

Finally finished up with the paint. I almost forgot the gas cap. Not my favorite part of wrenching but I love the Ultramarine Blue. I am surprised that this was a one year only (1978) color. Glad the paint is done and looking forward to getting back to the nut and bolt work I enjoy.

Hey, Mike, Nice paint work. I've done my share of rust repair and paint work. Your finished paint work looks really nice and for that to look that nice you spent a ton of time on paint prep work. I hate spending hours on prep work but the reward after you spray it is well worth the time if you are a perfectionist like me, (and I think you are looking at the work your done on this car, filling in the sunroof must have been a pain in the _ _ _! but the finished roof looks awesome). I'm just finishing the paint work on my truck in the next couple months, (Just have the box and tailgate to paint),and then I get to FINALLY start work on my Monza build which will need full paint as well. Not looking forward to that but at least its a smaller than my truck. I'm going to PM you, I would like to pick your brain about the paint work if you don't mind. Just looking for down the road to when I have to paint my Monza. Again, nice work, when its all done you should be quite proud of the finished product.

Hanging the headlights and front urethane. It's looking more and more the car i purchased a year ago...only a lot better.

New jute and carpets are here and ready to be installed. Very little prep work to do.

I find very few H-body cars near me in California. The only exception is Minor's front yard. So I have a question. Why is it that most of the used parts I have located and most of the new H-body friends I have corresponded with in the last year are on the East Coast where rust is a serious issue? I would have expected these cars to be rusted out and scrapped years ago. California should have plenty of these cars left, but that is not what I'm finding.

These are the raw floor pans from my 40 year old Monza Spyder. This car even sat in a field for five years before I bought it and towed it home. These pans are in great shape and need no work at all. Quite a blessing.

i did a 5 year rotissere' resto on a 1977 factory 305 V-8 car
( my first car from when i was 16 )
my floor pans had to be custom made.
...and rust was an issue on my build
but only in floor pans.

on the underlayment, sound deadening products

DONT DO WHAT I DID.

i either over did it , or a combination of new insulation/sound deadener under carpet
along with all new seat buns and upholstery, i am at least 1"or more, too high !!!

i cant even hardly sit in the car, my head almost hits headliner
and i am only 5'7" !!!

i am going to take away the underlayment/insulation under the seat tracks to see if that helps !

My guess is you used the seat foam available for 70's f body cars. They are thicker!

Today I reintroduced the Spyder to the outside air and sunshine. Bumpers are installed and aligned, minus the rear bumperettes which I forgot to paint. Next weekend's project. She still looks a little naked without the black side stripes, spyder script, and spyder hood decal. Still have a little interior work to do. Waiting to exchange and dye some seat belts with my buddy Minor, then I'll get back to finishing the installation of the carpets, headliner, and work on the rear defroster wiring. I also have intermittent components to wire up.

Wow, sure looks nice. I agree it will look even sharper with the Spyder stripes and decals

Car looks great, with the finishing touches it will be a terrific 1978 example, really great job.

Look what arrived in the mail today. These are from Phoenix Graphics. I talked with Stencils and Stripes but they didn't have the Black/White/Gold color set I needed.
