I've browsed this website for a couple weeks now and decided to make this. I'm 17 years old and in October of last year I bought a 1977 Chevy Monza. My dad originally had a 75 Monza and I guess you could say thats what drove me to get one. For over a year and a half I looked and finally found this one, since bringing it home I've blown it apart getting ready to throw in a 400 sbc with a turbo 350. My dad has been there to more or less guide me but I've primarily been doing all the work on it.

Welcome aboard there Young Man! 17 was a long time ago for most of us [I was 17 in 1979 OOOOOUUUUUCCCCHHHH!] That car looks pretty decent from your pictures, That will be a long journey as these things always take longer than we think [waaaaaaaaay longer for some of us] Glad to see some younger guys feeling some LOVE for our cars. Keep at it and enjoy the journey, it isn't just the destination, Cherish the moments you spend with Dad and Buddies as these will be the stories you will be telling your kids etc. Post up your location some of us may be nearby. Welcome, looks like a nice project. I was 19 when I bought my 1975 Monza and still have it. Take plenty of pics for your own keepsake as well as sharing them with u old timers

Just a couple more pictures, haven't been able to do much because of the cold. Need to patch the driver side floor pan then roll bar can go in. Put engine and trans in for fitment changes and to start making a cross member. I've decided that rather than putting the torque arm onto the tail shaft like stock to weld another plate to the cross member to relieve extra stress on the trans. Set in place a steel bar where the support bars on the roll bar will be attached to. Hopefully it will warm up soon to get the car running by summer. (Running and driving might be wishful thinking haha)

Have a question for anyone who may know, is there a aftermarket or another automatic brake pedal assembly that can work for a Monza? The guy I bought the car from took the automatic one and gave me a manual assembly (would make it a 4-speed car but already had a TH350), any help would be great!

Main hoop and back support bars are in! Now time to fit the side support bars and finish touching up some spots, then onto fixing a couple rust spots.

Have been busy with school finishing up and other things so haven't been able to update, 18 and a Monza now too. I've been able to finish the roll bar and paint it along with getting in the steering column and finishing fabricating a brake pedal. Been able to buy some engine parts too, Big Mutha Thumpr cam, comp roller rockers, stud girdles, many more. Welded in a patch panel for the big hole where the heater core was, then used some duraglass and a shot of primer to make it look pretty. Had to bring the car up to my high school for a Senior exhibition night and show off the car so I stuck in the motor and tranny and was able to show off my work to a few people. Only one person knew what a Monza was hehe.

Nice work, Looking good ! I like the flat panel on top of the firewall below the cowl ! How is it attached, pop rivets or welded? I can't tell looking at the picture.

It was something my dad made when he was building his monza, its a stainless steel piece and just bolts on, I'm going to most likely make a new one because that one is pitted and starting to show its age. Helps fill the ugly gap between the firewall and the cowl panel.
