zeke's Sport Coupe

Postby zeke » Thu May 24, 2018 10:33 pm

Here's a few pics for the forum dwellers of my new acquisition. A recent post on Facebook group Monza Madness, of a kijiji ad, got my attention. Car was only 70 miles away from me.

A 1978 Sport Coupe Monza - Iron Duke, 4 speed, A/C, 80000 kms, gauge package. VIN verifies the car is a R27 body type. Car was stored inside for the last 30 years I'm told. It was repainted maybe 20 years ago or so but is in really good condition body wise. Could use a repaint again tho as prep work was sub-standard. Needs a fair bit of mechanical work. The Spyder emblems have been added I'm 99% certain but I'll probably leave them. Plans are to keep this one original as possible. I won't be doing a detailed project journal for this car but will post the occasional pic here.

Missing the A/C compressor brackets and original air breather. Let me know if you can help.

That's a nice looking Monza, that's got to be a fairly rare color as well, I don't recall seeing many that colour.

Thanks guys!

Yeah green on green is unusual but I like it for that reason. The whole option list is strange. No P/S, no P/B, no tilt, but has A/C, am/fm/cassette, rear window defroster and luggage rack.

Zeke that is a nice clean acquisition right there! That body style was available with the "Spyder Package" and that would be a rare one indeed, a build sheet/Heritage package would shed much light on that for sure. Bryan's site has some info on that limited body combo too! :th: Harry http://monza.homestead.com/1978.html Click the link in the middle(ish: http://monza.homestead.com/Z87.html ) of the page for more and he has Pic's as well:http://monza.homestead.com/mscpics.html

Nice clean ride. I wouldn't change anything either. I've got your AC brackets. Not sure on the breather, I'll check in the morning.

There's been much discussion about the Spyders and the general consensus is that someone stuck them on the car to dress it up along with the v6 fender badges and radial tuned suspension tag on the dash. Build sheet is not available unfortunately.

That's awesome Bullet! Didn't think I'd ever find them. Pic below, looks like there's a bunch of pieces to it.

Took the breather off, looks like somebody cut off all the external structure to make it into an open element. :cuss:

I may not have them all. I'm checking on what's still on the car and what may be in the boxes I got with the car. The head is missing from the engine but the pieces may be in the loose parts. No breather for sure. A 4 cyl S10 will use the same stuff virtually I think. I'll let you know what I find.

Ok, what I have is brackets 10, 12, 14, & 17. The low pressure hose on mine is made a bit different and the silencer is attached to a bracket that is bolted to the compressor. At least it's a start.

Bracket 14 is the only piece I have, I guess it was too much trouble to remove the bottom bolts, so they left it. Is now a vacuum hose support. lol

I will definitely take 10, 12 and 17! Will send pm...

#8 is the only other critical a/c bracket I need, it must be a rather large bracket, something like in the attached pic. This pic is of a 2.5 out of something else with induction on passenger side.

Here's a pic of the air breather I would love to find. May be an H body specific piece as there is a tube in the rad support for the breather to connect with via a short piece of 2.5" flex hose. The Iron Duke got a cold air intake!

Hi Chris, I don't suppose that the breather off the 140 engine will fit will it. I still have mine on the motor.

Looks a little different Nick. Could be an option tho if I can't find the 151 breather.
