LS1 MOTOR

I am interested in details and pictures of any
LS1 motor installation in an H-car - if it hasn't
happened yet, it will happen. The LS1 motor is supposedly
at least 90 lbs. lighter than the smallblock and
this means removal of about 100 lbs. from the front of
a 4 cyl. H-car could allow no major suspension
changes plus the worst feature of a V-8 conversion is of
course too heavy front end - LS1 would help cure this -
a wrecked Z28 could provide motor, clutch, trans
and drive shaft.

Bill,

I'm interested in the same thing for
the same reasons. I heard of an incredible deal in my
area on a low mileage motor. Have you checked to see
if it will be longer than a SB 350 with a
short-shaft water pump? That is my biggest concern-- it will
be too long to fit, and since I've heard the
existing water pump is reverse-flow, I don't think it can
be swapped. Also, the belt and pulley system would
make a tight fit. Great idea, just might not
fit!

Dave

Bill, What I fear most is that the cast oilpan
would never clear the steering. I have access to a bare
block but as of yet have not taken the
time to put a
tape measure to it.I have not looked at the Truck
engine yet so I don't know what there oilpans look like.
I will admit it would be nice to see a LS-1 in a H
Body.
Later, Randy MONZAMILER
