Leon, the only Monza/Vega rearend that will go
"up over 3.90's" is a 1976 Cosworth Vega. It had a
4.10 ratio. Other H-body ratios available that are
somewhat close to what you want are 3.73 and 3.42, but you
will have to know what Hbody engine/tranny combo
you're looking for and the 2-digit axle code before you
find these hard-to-find ratios.
The H-body
rear axle has a 7.5" ring gear and a 2WD S10 carrier &
gears will also fit, but you must do one of two things
to get it to fit your Hbody housing. (Hint: Use
'82-'88 S10 carrier and gears because the axles for those
years are 26-spline, which matches what the Hbody used.
This means you can use those axles to easily convert
to a 5-lug pattern if you wish)
1. Enlarge
the pinion hole in your differential and use an S10
bearing, race, and seal. This is because in the
differential case, the hole for the pinion bearing is smaller
in the H-body differential than in other GM 10-bolt
differentials. You can either get a machine shop to enlarge this
hole or use a special pinion bearing and race.
2. Use these non-factory parts to fit the S10
carrier & gears into the H-body housing:
-Timkin
bearing #16143
-Timkin bearing race
#16283
-National seal #8610
-7.5" S10 gear set with pinion
-S10 rear end yoke
-"Combination" U-joint (Dana
#5-3022X) to mate the S-10 yoke with your stock driveshaft
Hope this helps.... if you have any further questions
regarding your Monza/Vega rearend, try posting it to

nut is. *smile*
