question? rearend & torque bar

Does anyone know how much different the monza
hooks or handles if you don't run the torque bar? My
hard hitting El camino and many other cars is the same
setup but without torque bars. Of course they are full
framed however. My last monza project I didn't run a
torque bar but I set it up with adjustable upper control
arms. It does seem however the bar would help more than
hurt but I didn't get any wheel hop from my last
project. If anyone knows how much differance it makes let
me know. I'll either fabricated some kind of
mounting system to my 12 bolt or use the bar to beat my
pitt bull on the head with.
Thanks

The torque arm suspension design is better
overall than the short 4 link design which can be used on
an H body. Normally the short upper control arms (as
on the "old" ('71-'74+) Vegas were just too short
for proper rear axle geometry. A shorter, more rigid
(than the long stock one) torque arm with an improved
forward mounting point provides better anti-windup and
anti-squat than the factory style 4 link. The torque arm is
in effect the world's longest traction bar. The
combination of the panhard bar (for lateral location), the
torque arm (for pinion angle control, and torque
control), and the lower control arms (for thrust) provides
the best overall package in our unit body cars for a
suspension which gives good handling with adequate axle
control. I fabricated a torque arm to use with the 7.5" in
my Vega. It uses the factory mounting on the rear
end (sorry, I know that a 12 bolt will not have a
cast-in mounting), and a free floating (fore and aft),
pivioting front mount.

Good Luck,

Kevin

Kevin,

Can you e-mail me and describe the
free-floating pivoting front mount you fabricated? I would be
mounting to a 700R4. What's the handling advantage vs. the
fixed mount I'm currently running?

Thanks,

Dave English
